From: The Kingsmen in Person ; Year: 1963; Genre: Rock 'n Roll/R&B/Garage Rock I have been at this "song-a-day" blogging thing for over 16 years now and I had not chosen this deeply storied track that has been covered and recorded more times than I dare to count. However, I do believe that The Kingsmen's cover of this song, originally written and recorded by Richard Berry, is more or less the de-facto version even though it wasn't initially intended to be more than a quick and cheap demo for the band. From: Dirty Water ; Year: 1966; Genre: Blues Rock/Garage Rock When running some errands yesterday I had this song come on my playlist, which was quite enjoyable. I have absolutely no idea how it happened to enter my music collection, but I am glad it did. Anyway, even though they originally hailed from Los Angeles, the band and the song have apparently been adopted by the city that inspired the song: Boston, Massachusetts. Apparently this song was not released on the Canadian pressing, but was on the one released in The States. From: The "Angry" Young Them ; Year: 1965; Genre: Rock/Pop This is one that much of the older generations will surely recognize and maybe some younger as well. For those unaware, Them was a band from Northern Ireland in which singer/songwriter Van Morrison would "cut his teeth" so to speak; they had a few hits in their brief tenure with this being the biggest. From: Little Bit O' Soul ; Year: 1967; Genre: Rock/Pop/Garage Rock I had this song just pop into my mind for no apparent reason; I have definitely heard it many times over the years, but honestly I had no idea which band recorded it. Evidentially, their version was a cover, which was previously done by a band call the Little Darlings and has been covered many times after.
