From: Damn the Torpedoes ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock Yesterday I happened to forget my phone, (you would think that they'd start calling them something else by now since making telephone calls has become a small feature on them), whilst out and about and was thus forced to tune in the radio to a local station. Of course, one of the songs I happened to hear was this one, since it has not been on my blog yet I am picking it today.  This one in particular has always reminded me of music from the J. This is a straight-up song in that signature Tom Petty sound, but I've always thought that the ambiguous lyrics and the fact that he kept it that way really gave this one its full-on popularity. I grew up listening to his music and his solo album Full Moon Fever in particular really was and always will be one that contains some of my favourite music of his. From: The Last DJ ; Year: 2002; Genre: Rock I was thinking about some Tom Petty music this morning. This was one that caught my attention back when it was released, not only for its sociological anti-corporate message, but the way the music is written and performed around it. This track and its message is still very pertinent today, and it does give you a feeling of loss at how radio died albeit with a few heartbeats here and there. I was listening to this song yesterday and I figured that it would make a good choice; this is one of my favorite of Tom Petty's songs. The straight-up rock and roll sound of the rhythm section is what makes this song incredible. This song has a lot of hooks to it, the best hook of the song is at the very beginning with the opening guitar riff; I really like Jeff Lynne's contributions to this whole album as well. After watching a Tom Petty concert last night, this song came to mind and I thought that I would pick it. The song was co-written by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne of The Electric Light Orchestra fame.
