6744. The Rolling Stones - Love is Strong

Image
From: Voodoo Lounge ; Year: 1994; Genre: Blues Rock Started playing in my mind for wotever reason and decided that I would go ahead and choose it today. While definitely not the best material from the band, they really leaned heavy into wot they've always been best with: bluesy structure and unique guitar riffing from both Richards and Wood, which did, in fact make this such a good song from that time; heard it a lot on the radio and elsewhere.   Hear Love is Strong on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Jethro Tull - March, the Mad Scientist     My song pick 2 years ago today: Gilbert and Sullivan - When I Was a Lad   My song pick 3 years ago today: Honey Cone - Want Ads   My song pick 4 years ago today: Max Roach - Little Folks   My song pick 5 years ago today: War - Groovin'   My song pick 6 years ago today: Cab Calloway - The Ghost of Smokey Joe   My song pick 7 years ago today: Spiral Starecase - More Today T...

6548. The Rolling Stones - Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)

Image
From: Goats Head Soup ; Year: 1973; Genre: Hard Rock/Funk Rock/Blues Rock For most the day thus far I have had this great track from The 'Stones playing incessantly in my brain. I, once again, believed that I had already picked it at some point, but I guess I was in error. This is one of those songs from The Rolling Stones that is heavy all the way around and should be a crime not to crank the volume when played. Those horns and the keyboards add so much to the already amazing music of the band.   Hear Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Eric Clapton featuring Tina Turner - Tearing Us Apart   My song pick 2 years ago today: Weezer - Troublemaker   My song pick 3 years ago today: Pallas - A Million Miles Away (Imagination)   My song pick 4 years ago today: Louis Armstrong - Fools Rush In (Where Angels Fear To Tread)   My song pick 5 years ago today: Funkadelic - Good to Your Earhole   My...

6008. The Rolling Stones - The Lantern

Image
From: Their Satanic Majesties Request ; Year: 1967; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Folk Rock I've always really liked this 'Stones record for no other reason than how different sounding it is. The Lantern has that aural and lyrical uniqueness on full display throughout. I really love the contrasting and complimentary musical ideas throughout in this beautiful song about two lovers separated by death yet still able to be close in an interesting manner.   Hear The Lantern on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Bernard Wright - We're Just the Band   My song pick 2 years ago today: Scandal featuring Patty Smyth - The Warrior   My song pick 3 years ago today: Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight My song pick 4 years ago today: The Steve Miller Band - My Own Space   My song pick 5 years ago today: Foreigner - Hot Blooded My song pick 6 years ago today: Jon Hendricks - No More My song pick 7 years ago today: Bootsy's New Rubber Band - Funk Expre...

5430. The Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)

Image
From: It's Only Rock 'n Roll ; Year: 1974; Genre: Blues Rock/Glam Rock Had this one come on the radio in the car yesterday, you know the rest.... Anyway, this is one of the mainstay hits from The 'Stones that most anybody would recognize within two seconds of it starting. Apparently, it was apparently done through a jam session between Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and members of the band Faces with Keith Richards adding his guitar over that raw recording.   Hear It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It) on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Positive Force - We Got The Funk   My song pick 2 years ago today: Everclear - Santa Monica   My song pick 3 years ago today: Icehouse - Electric Blue My song pick 4 years ago today: Jackson Browne - The Load-Out/Stay My song pick 5 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Don't Turn Your Back My song pick 6 years ago today: Band of Horses - Casual Party My song pick 7 years ago today: Bachman & Turner - Ne...

Image
From: A Bigger Bang ; Year: 2005; Genre: Blues Rock I heard this song the other day on the television and thought it would make a good pick today. 5169. The Rolling Stones - Tumbling Dice

Image
From: Exile on Main St. ; Year: 1972; Genre: Rock Felt like listening to some more music from the 'Stones today; it's still hard to believe that Charlie Watts passed away, the guys in the group seemed like they are immortal and/or would live a great, very long life. I suppose they have, their music will live on forever and so will they. Anyway, I've always liked this song, especially that one-of-a-kind guitar sound throughout; excellent music you'd expect from the band.   Hear Tumbling Dice on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Blondie - The Hardest Part   My song pick 2 years ago today: Finntroll - Midvinterdraken My song pick 3 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Night in the Wilderness My song pick 4 years ago today: Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez My song pick 5 years ago today: Larry Graham & Graham Central Station - Entrow My song pick 6 years ago today: Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance My song pick 7 years ago today: Genesis...

5168. The Rolling Stones - Emotional Rescue

Image
From: Emotional Rescue ; Year: 1980; Genre: Rock As with most everyone else I learned that Rolling Stones' drummer Charlie Watts passed away; RIP to the great musician. His contribution not just to the band, but to music of the last 60 years is immense; he certainly will be missed. Anyway, I had this song on my mind for some reason and I thought it'd be a good pick for the occasion.    Hear Emotional Rescue on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Rage Against the Machine - Beautiful World   My song pick 2 years ago today: ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man My song pick 3 years ago today: Midnight Oil - Put Down That Weapon My song pick 4 years ago today: Dayton Sidewinders - Funky Chicken Stew My song pick 5 years ago today: The Kinks - Tired of Waiting for You My song pick 6 years ago today: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California My song pick 7 years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Don't Hate Me My song pick 8 years ago today: Jacques Offenbach...

4315. The Rolling Stones - Saint of Me

Image
From: Bridges to Babylon ; Year: 1997; Genre: Rock/Blues Rock Yet another one just popped into my head this morning that I had not heard in a while; well at least I'm not having to wrack my brain for a song. Anyway, this song was one I heard a lot on the radio back in the late '90s, yeah, back when the radio was something you actually listened to. 3797. The Rolling Stones - Winter

Image
From: Goats Head Soup ; Year: 1973; Genre: Rock Number six in my " Winter Theme Week ;" couldn't let this theme go without picking this aptly titled tune from the 'Stones. I've noted that there seems to be a lonely and/or wistful tone to the vast majority of songs concerning the Winter season; thematically and music wise this song is not really different, but the music and vocals are excellent as ever. Hear Winter on YouTube. 3303. The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Image
From: Out of Our Heads ; Year: 1965; Genre: Hard Rock I was talking about The Rolling Stones the other day with a family member and it got me thinking about their music again. I find it kind of funny that I've gone this long and not picked Satisfaction... it seems to be something that happens a lot with band's bigger hits; the longer I go I seem to think that I've already picked the big hits, but many times it's not the case. Anyway, this is probably one of the most iconic songs from not only the band, but I'd hazard to say it's an icon of the 20th century. Hear (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction on YouTube.
