The music really sets the background for the images he paints so clearly with his lyrics. From: Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme ; Year: 1966; Genre: Folk Rock This song has always been among my top three favourites from the duo; for a "radio friendly" 2:30 there is a whole lot to listen to, which really gives it the illusion that it is a much longer track. From: Bookends : Year: 1968; Genre: Folk Rock Last night I had this song running through my mind, essentially keeping me awake and depriving me of sleep. As I always do, I took it as a sign that the it needed picked. Anyway, I've always liked this song every since I first heard it. Mrs. Robinson is one of those songs that has it where it counts and has it in spades: great musical arrangements, incredible lyrics, amazing vocals, and an excellent all around production quality. 1650 Simon & Garfunkel - Richard Cory From: Sounds of Silence , Year: 1966 Genre: Folk Rock This song dislodged itself from the recesses of my mind the other day and I hadn't heard it in ages; isn't it weird how that happens sometimes? Anyway, this classic track was based off of a poem of the same name written by Edwin Arlington Robinson in the year 1897. The song's lyrics diverge a bit from the original poem; they were written from the perspective of a poor man who works in the factory of a very wealthy man named Richard Cory. He curses his life of poverty and envies the life of his boss who apparently has everything he could ever want. Both the song and the poem end the same way with Richard Cory taking his own life and how the man telling the story can't fathom why a man who had everything would do himself in. I heard this song last week and it's been running through my mind off and on ever since. It's quite a catchy tune with interesting lyrics; very fun to listen to. I love the grooving slap bass in this song, it is one of the main aspects for me on this track; of course the solo is fun as well. Here is the music video on YouTube. I woke up this morning to another three inches of snow everywhere; I am wondering when and if this crap will ever end? Anyway, this song really fit this situation more that perfectly, so I had to choose it. For me both of the popular versions of the song from Simon & Garfunkel and the Bangles are excellent; they are both good in different aspects.
