2926 Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - Eat That Question

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61IySutmPcL._SX425_.jpg
From: The Grand Wazoo; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock/Jazz Fusion
Earlier this morning I had one of Frank Zappa's songs running through my mind incessantly. After that it seemed like an excellent idea to pick one of his track for today. This song, which is very popular amongst those who listen to his music, features the incomparable George Duke lending his talents on the keys. It's a totally brilliant amalgamation of Zappa's signature almost otherworldly musical ideas and cutting-edge jazz fusion at the time.

2916 The Chi-Lites - Oh Girl

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/514yFsLc7dL._SX425_.jpg
From: A Lonely Man; Year: 1972; Genre: R&B/Soul
I've been meaning to pick this song for quite a few days now; I happened to remember that fact today and made it my pick.
I've actually have always loved this song and the band; their flavour of Soul/R&B is just exquisite. The vocals are top-notch and powerful is their delivery of the heart-felt sound and emotion, but the real treat for me personally is the great backing band; I just wish I knew who they were. It's amazing when a group and style of music such as this can take a rather melancholy idea and deliver it in an empowering and positive way.

2911 Hawkwind - Be Yourself

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51KPwbw0%2BBL._SX425_.jpg
From: Hawkwind; Year: 1970; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock/Space Rock
This song, which is more or less an extended jam/instrumental, was running through my mind this morning and, as usual, I took it as a sign I should make it the subject of today's post. This is kind of a psychedelia meets surf rock sort of sound to it. I especially love Terry Ollis' drumming through this one; they really are the driving force or the entire piece.

2907 Jethro Tull - Cup of Wonder

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61v0rULISsL._SX425_.jpg
From: Songs From the Wood; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock
Been having a lot of internet issues today, so I've been having to use my mobile connection to post.
Anyway, I was thinking about 'Tull's Songs from the Wood album a bit lately. Even though this is more or less album oriented rock and for the most part all of the album is great, Cup of Wonder is still a standout track featuring their Hard Rock meets Progressive Rock meets Folk Rock sound of the time; definitely another nice track to listen to.

2905 Head Hunters - Chameleon

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61sOVzualrL._SX425_.jpg
From: Head Hunters; Year: 1973; Genre: Funk/Jazz Fusion
Even though I had already chosen a song from him, I felt like picking another one of Herbie Hancock's tracks for this Funky Friday; this one comes from his second backing ensemble: The Head Hunters.
This one's got an infectious groove laid down by the bass playing of Paul Jackson and the percussion/drumming of Bill Summers and Harvey Mason. The keyboards and use of the synthesizers in particular along with the horns fill the lead and rhythm perfectly to make it a joy to listen to.

2904 Jesus Jones - Right Here, Right Now

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61%2Bnp%2BcupDL._SX425_.jpg
From: Doubt; Year: 1991; Genre: Alternative Rock
Last night I'd heard this song for the first time in some years; it was definitely a blast from the past for me so to speak. It was pretty big over 20 years ago, which is strange to believe that it's been that long since it was released.
Anyway, thematically this one is kind of a zeitgeist of the '80s and early '90s with making reference to all of the sociopolitical changes going on at the time. Musically it's very much part of the pop/rock at the time; not a bad song at all.

2900 King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part 2

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41CkYJRfEYL.jpg
From: Larks' Tongues in Aspic; Year: 1973; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock
Dang, I'm now at 2900 songs picked; I wasn't sure if I'd make it this far, but wot the heck... why not keep going?
Anyway; I wanted to pick something more epic for this pick and looked no further to the complex and thunderous sounds of King Crimson. This is one of their instrumentals that some in progressive circles might've heard or at least a cover or two of it. Part 2 of the, (at this point), 4 part epic of Larks' Tongues in Aspic; definitely some musical bliss here.
