4458. Quasar - Fire in the Sky

Image
From: Fire in the Sky ; Year: 1982; Genre: Progressive Rock Thought I'd revisit Quasar again, their first album in particular; albeit what I could find of their music online with how obscure the band is I guess. Anyway, this is the title track to their debut album, which is a nice piece to listen to. Hear a version of Fire in the Sky on YouTube. 2139 Quasar - As You Fall Asleep

Image
From: The Loreli ; Year: 1989; Genre: Progressive Rock I set out to post another song today, but it just didn't fit my mood.... I've been actually in the mood for some '80's electronic progressive rock for most of the day, which left me with actually quite a few bands to choose from. While I like Quasar, their album The Loreli just has never really "clicked" with me, not that it's a bad album or anything like that. Truthfully, I believe it has to do with Tracy Hitchings' vocals, again nothing really bad about them, it's just not my cup of tea so to speak. That being said, I have been taking advantage of this mood that I'm in to give it a good listen and thought I would pick one from the disc as well. Hear As You Fall Asleep on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: The Jimmy Castor Bunch - Troglodyte (Cave Man) My song pick two years ago today: Stahlhammer - Eisbär My song pick three years ago today: The Lovin' Spoonf...

1755 Quasar - Mission 14

Image
From: Fire in the Sky ; Year: 1981; Genre: Progressive Rock After the extended weekend and all, getting another workweek started is proving itself to be more than a bit of a chore. I really didn't have a song in mind for today, however for some reason I felt like listening to something from the second wave of prog bands, (or what is referred to by some as " neo-progressive rock "); of course Quasar in one of my favourites of that ilk. While I love most of the music on this album, this epic 13 minute track is one that I particularly like. When I listen to this track I always get a feel of nostalgia; this is really the sound I grew up hearing a lot over the years. I suppose you could say the sound is a bit dated, but it's still quite excellent nevertheless. Hear Mission 14 on YouTube. Here is a live performance from last year on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Derek and the Dominoes - Key to the Highway My song pick two years ago today: David ...

1641-2 Quasar - Fanfare/Seeing Stars

Image
1641-2 Quasar - Fanfare/Seeing Stars From: Fire in the Sky , Year: 1981 Genre: Progressive Rock It still amazes me how every now and then I remember bands that I like and should've picked a song from at some time in the last four years of doing this blog. Maybe I should try to do a theme week covering bands that I like and haven't picked yet. Anyway, for those who haven't heard of the band, they are what some refer to as part of 'the second wave' of Progressive Rock bands, or 'Neo-Progressive Rock,' which are essentially Progressive Rock bands that got their start right around 1980. One of the main aspects that bands of this ilk, including Quasar, incorporated were the new ideas and sounds that were coming out of genres such as New Wave. To me, on this song in particular they sound a lot like a mix between the sounds of Styx and Electric Light Orchestra with maybe some 'Bowie thrown in for good measure. Fanfare , which is the intro/overture of the albu...
