2872 Tarot - Magic and Technology

Image
From: Gravity of Light ; Year: 2010; Genre: Power Metal After watching some stuff on Marco Hietala the other day it got me in the mood for some of his music; of course the band Tarot is usually my first stop. This is a rather heavy and brooding piece of metal with amazing vocals and music; I especially love the ponderous feel of the rhythm in this one, it definitely sells the song. 2408 Tarot - Wings of Darkness

Image
From: The Spell of Iron MMXI ; Year: 2011; Genre: Power Metal This morning I caught one of Tarot's songs on my iPod, and it felt like a good pick. Interestingly enough, this song was originally from their debut album, but upon its 25th anniversary they totally re-recorded and released the entire album. It is certainly interesting to hear a modernized studio version of this classic track; I actually like what they did with it. Watch Wings of Darkness video clip on YouTube. 1390 Tarot - Veteran of Psychic Wars From: Crows Fly Black , Year: 2006 I had no song in mind for today's pick, so I decided on picking one I've been meaning to choose for a while now. This is a cover of the song originally done by the band Blue Öyster Cult ; it is a bonus track on their '06 release Crows Fly Black . With this being one of my favourites BÖC songs I have to say I actually love what they did on this cover; quite nice. Hear the studio version on YouTube. 1325 Northern Kings - Don't Stop Believin'

Image
1325 Northern Kings - Don't Stop Believin' From: Reborn, Year: 2007 'Tis day two of my cover song theme week; this is a cover of Journey's anthemic hit song by the Finnish Symphonic Metal group Northern Kings. Being that Northern Kings is a cover band/side project for four Finnish Metal musicians there were quite a few songs to choose from, but for no reason other than I like it I picked it. As you would expect, this song has the big Symphonic Metal sound to it and it has a rather nice galloping rhythm as well. Marco Hietala's vocals are one of the best aspects of the song in my opinion. Hear the Northern Kings' version of the song on YouTube. Hear Journey's original version on YouTube. 1079 Tarot - Gone

Image
1079 Tarot - Gone I'm finally getting around to picking something off of Tarot's new album: Gravity of Light . I had a couple in mind off the album and finally settled on this one for today's pick. Their sound on this album reminds me a lot of Iron Maiden and maybe to a lesser degree Black Sabbath. This one is quite a dynamic track going from the mellower verses to heavy choruses; they bring it back down quite nicely. I love the lyrics/vocals on this track; Marco Hietala is incredible as ever. Here is the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: The Rolling Stones - Paint It Black My song pick two years ago today: The Enemys - Sinner Man +
