6813. The Delgados - I Fought the Angels

Image
From: Universal Audio ; Year: 2004; Genre: Indie Rock Songs from the defunct Scottish indie rock band the Delgados happened to randomly come on over the last week or so, you know wot that means. Anyway, this is one I thought I had already chosen, but evidentially not. I Fought the Angels has always been one of my to favourites from their final record. It has a low-fidelity sound and I have read where people compare this track to the general sound of The Pixies, which I can hear, but there is a lot more to it in my opinion.   Hear I Fought the Angels on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Five Stairsteps - World of Fantasy     My song pick 2 years ago today: Bonnie Tyler - Here She Comes   My song pick 3 years ago today: Kajagoogoo - Hang on Now   My song pick 4 years ago today: Link Wray - I Got To Ramble (Dedicated to the Memory of Duane Allman)   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Thermals - Back to the Sea   My so...

5477. The Delgados - Primary Alternative

Image
From: The Lazarwalker (EP) ; Year: 1995; Genre: Indie Rock I used to listen to The Delgados quite a bit, but for some reason they kept fading away, never came to dislike them or their music, I just quit listening to them that much. Happened to have them pop back in my mind the other day and thought I'd choose another one of their songs. Interestingly enough, just as I was going over their albums I discovered that the band has regrouped for s short tour in the U.K.; this will be the first time they have performed in about 17 years or so. Here's hoping it lasts for more than the five shows! As far as I am aware, this EP was their first studio release and it contains four songs I had not heard prior. This is the opening track and is definitely in the indie rock genre with that great raw, lo-fi sound.    Hear Primary Alternative on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Toto - Make Believe   My song pick 2 years ago today: Badfinger - Take It All ...

From: Domestiques ; Year: 1996; Genre: Indie Rock It's definitely been a while since I've picked one from The Delgados and their music has been playing incessantly in my mind, so I'm picking one. 2054 The Delgados - Mr. Blue Sky

Image
From: The Complete BBC Peel Sessions ; Year: 2006; Genre: Indie Rock The other day my wife happened to wake me up playing this rather excellent cover of this ELO classic, of course this was before I was having to work a 10 hour shift. After that I had trouble getting back to sleep, so suffice it to say I was quite exhausted and as a bonus I had the song running through my mind all of the day, which was fine; it's a very good song and I absolutely love Emma Pollock's vocals. Hear The Delgados cover of Mr. Blue Sky on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Muse - Citizen Erased My song pick two years ago today: The Darkness - Is It Just Me My song pick three years ago today: Blind Willie Johnson - Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground My song pick four years ago today: Devo - Come Back Jonee My song pick five years ago today: Weather Report - A Remark You Made

987 ( The Delgados - Come Undone )

987 ( The Delgados - Come Undone ) For about the last six months in particular this song has kept popping up on my iPod's playlist every time I use it. I find it odd that out of 5000+ songs this one keeps getting chosen; not that I mind because I really do like it. It also feels like an excellent song for today, so I am adding it to my list. Anyway, this very beautiful track has a haunting feeling about it; the lyrics and vocal work are quite nice. It really annoys me that I did not discover this group until after they broke up, but that seems to be somewhat of a reoccurring theme at times. Here is the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: The Doobie Brothers - China Grove My song pick two years ago today: .38 Special - Fantasy Girl +

Song 560 ( The Delgados - Accused of Stealing )

Today was my wife's birthday again. I asked her to pick my song for today and she told me to pick something from The Delgados. Anyway this is one that has been under serious consideration for a while as a choice, so I shall. Probably the best parts of this song is the time signature changes and of course Emma Pollock's vocals. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +

Song 542 ( The Delgados - Keep on Breathing )

This neat song really fits my mood today but would be a good pick anyway. One of the main aspects that caught my attention was the low-fi sound of the song and entire album, which gives it an aged feel. Here is the studio version on YouTube. +

Song 387 ( The Delgados - All You Need Is Hate )

Image
This is one that I ran into a while ago while researching The Delgados' music. It is one of their songs that features Alun Woodward on lead locals; he does a fantastic job. The song's title is obviously a nod to The Beatles All You Need Is Love , although I hear a bit more of an early Moody Blues sound in this one musically. I love the happiness and innocence in the feel of the song, combine this with the lyrics and you get a very tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic sounding song; I absolutely love it. Here is the music video on YouTube. +

Song 333 (The Delgados--"The Light Before We Land")

I found out about this Indie Rock band a bit ago when this song was used as an opening for an Animѐ called Gunnslinger Girl . This seems to have become a trend as of late in a lot of Animѐ to use music from bands that is already released for openings and endings rather than having the songs made for it.
