This is a three-way collaboration between three legends of the bass guitar: Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey of course, being that it is their project, but they're also joined by P-Funk founder Bootsy Collins. Picking something from the Wooten/Bailey project Bass Extremes felt absolutely perfect for today. From: Just Add Water ; Year: 2001; Genre: Jazz Fusion/Funk I'm still in the mood for some odd music; this one is Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey's cover of Jaco Pastorius' Portrait of Tracy . I love how they make the song so much more musical and "funkilated" than the original while still keeping the original's framework. 1305 Bass Extremes - Mocha Soca From: Just Add Water, Year: 2001 For some reason I felt like listening to Victor Wooten this morning; I decided to put on Bass Extremes' Just add Water album. This is, of course, the project undertaken by bassists Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey; this album features drummer Dennis Chambers and this track in particular also features bassist John Patitucci. 1187 Bass Extremes - Glorious Pastorius Last night on a whim I started going through a portion of my music collection and transferring some of it to my PlayStation. Anyway, I had totally forgot that I had this album/song; I guess it just got lost in the jumble; I had to listen to this one a few times in a row. For those who are not acquainted with them, Bass Extremes is a project consisting of two of the greatest electric bassists alive today: Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey. As with a lot of their work this track is quite listenable; one might expect when you bring two master musicians together they would go completely wild, but they made the song quite beautiful and listenable to even a casual listener. This song is, of course, written in honour of the late Jaco Pastorius who was considered arguably to be one of if not best electric bassist of his time.
