5959. Karussell - Nachtkind

Image
From: Erdenwind ; Year: 2018; Genre: Rock/Schlager Decided to look up one of the bands I really like, but haven't kept up with the other day: Karussell, and I discovered they released a brand new studio album a few years back. Of course I had to pick a song from it today; this one, Nachtkind ( Night Child ), was the first track I happened upon and I liked wot I heard, so it is today's choice.   Hear Nachtkind on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Aerosmith - Lightning Strikes   My song pick 2 years ago today: Jim Croce - Box No. 10   My song pick 3 years ago today: Johnny Nash - I Can See Clearly Now My song pick 4 years ago today: The Cult - Sweet Soul Sister   My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Pied Piper My song pick 6 years ago today: Queensrÿche - Screaming in Digital My song pick 7 years ago today: Canned Heat - Going Up the Country My song pick 8 years ago today: Jaco Pastorius - Soul Intro/The Chicken My song ...

From: Solche Wie Du ; Year: 1990; Genre: Rock For those on this side of "the pond" that don't know this excellent band from the old GDR, do yourself a favour and listen to their music; it's definitely worth it. 2554 Karussell - Wintermärchen

Image
From: Solche wie du ; Year: 1989; Genre: Rock The other day this track came on my iPod whilst on the road and it felt like a great pick for this Sunday. This is another nice song from the twilight of the DDR period of music from Karussell just before The Wall came down. This is still one of my favourite albums from the band and contains a lot of music I like, including this song. Hear Wintermärchen on YouTube. 1787 Karussell - Entweder Oder

Image
From: Entweder Oder ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock I had another one of Karussell's songs running through my mind, but, as usual when dealing with their music, I couldn't find it on YouTube. So, I decided I would pick one of their songs that is available at this moment. This is quite an excellent song all the way around and is quite dynamic. The sound throughout the track goes anywhere from harder rock to light and somewhat classically inspired music; of course the lyrics are just as awesomely put together with all of the neat imagery and symbolism. Hear Entweder Oder on YouTube. Here is a live television performance on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Nightwish - Last of the Wilds (Erämaan viimeinen) My song pick two years ago today: Rush - Caravan My song pick three years ago today: John Denver - This Old Guitar My song pick four years ago today: Rammstein - Stirb Nicht Vor Mir (Don't Die Before I Do) +

1181 Karussell - Tanzen

1181 Karussell - Tanzen I've had this rather beautiful piece of German Rock running through my mind this morning. The nice upbeat feel to this track is a welcomed contrast with the dreary weather we are experiencing today. Hear Tanzen on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Pearls Before Swine - Tell Me Why My song pick two years ago today: Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe My song pick three years ago today: Steve Winwood & Traffic - Dear Mr. Fantasy +

1126 Karussell - Nämlich Bin Ich Glücklich

Image
1126 Karussell - Nämlich Bin Ich Glücklich I have had this song running through my mind most of the morning and afternoon. This is pretty dynamic track; it goes from its early 80's Rock sound to almost classical at times. The chorus of the song mostly features riff heavy rock with some synth, while the verses contain mostly acoustic guitars with a well-defined bass line and modest percussion holding it down. Quite a nice track for an otherwise calm Sunday. Here is the studio version on YouTube . My song pick a year ago today: Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams + My song pick two years ago today: The Delgados - All You Need Is Hate + My song pick three years ago today: Tesla - Signs +

930 ( Karussell - Wer Die Rose Ehrt )

930 ( Karussell - Wer Die Rose Ehrt ) This track from Karussell seemed a perfect fit for the day; such a beautiful song in so many ways. Here is a live recording of the song circa '75 on YouTube performed by Renft, which is a progenitor band of Karussell. My song pick a year ago today: The Delgados - Accused of Stealing My song pick two years ago today: Bon Jovi - Always +

871 ( Karussell - Schattenkreuze )

Image
871 ( Karussell - Schattenkreuze ) For over the last eight to ten years I have been trying to discover bands from Europe that we do not see in the states. One of the countries that seems to have produce a lot of the music I find appealing is Germany. It is odd that when I find a band from Germany that I like, (I would say that about 80% of the time), they are from the old East Germany or if it's a new band they have members who grew up there; Karussell is one of the former. All of the information I have found about them is from sites in written German, so finding out about them has been difficult and is forcing me to become more fluent in the language. From what I understand they actually came out of the dissolution of a band called Renft that had been banned in the GDR. Another interesting tidbit that I found is that the band had a lot of turnover over the years; some of that turnover was due to members making their way into the West. After reunification the band apparently broke ...
