6394. Rainbow - Black Sheep of the Family

Image
From: Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock/Metal A song from early Rainbow just seemed perfect for today. This track is a cover originally from the band Fat Mattress . I totally love the hard, charging edge of their rendition; of course you cannot go wrong with Ronnie Jame Dio providing vocals. \m/   Hear Black Sheep of the Family on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Funkadelic - Take Your Dead Ass Home! 6349. Dio - God Hates Heavy Metal

Image
From: Angry Machines (Japanese Edition) ; Year: 1996; Genre: Heavy Metal Growing up during the " Satanic Panic " and the subsequent flat-out lies and false accusations about metal music and related genres, I can really related to this song and the counter-argument that Ronnie James Dio and the rest of the band stated here. Sad part is that many of the artists on the top of the "moral hit list" were actually more religious than the majority of those coming from their lofty perch telling the blatant lies. Even as a youth I was able to see through it, which made me all the more skeptical at anything those in their faux moral position pontificated on. Anyway, enough negativity. This song was initially only released as a bonus track on the Japanese release. Eventually though it was released as a single 25 years later, but at least we finally got another awesome song in the end.   Hear God Hates Heavy Metal on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Lou Rawls - W...

6347. Dio - Hide in the Rainbow

Image
From: Iron Eagle Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ; Year: 1986; Genre: Heavy Metal Been a rather long time since I last saw the film, but the music... I listen to it a lot. When looking at the songs featured, it was one of the better ones from a great decade of motion picture soundtracks. But wot can you say, Ronnie James and his namesake band made a song not only perfect for the film, and it stands alone as a testament to the band's greatness.   Hear Hide in the Rainbow on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Waylon Jennings - Are You Sure Hank Done it This Way   My song pick 2 years ago today: Sly and the Family Stone - Love City   My song pick 3 years ago today: Billy Joel - Don't Ask Me Why   My song pick 4 years ago today: R.E.M. - Man on the Moon   My song pick 5 years ago today: Brook Benton - Rainy Night in Georgia My song pick 6 years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Way Out of Here My song pick 7 years ago today: Cyndi Lauper ...

5683. Elf - I'm Coming Back For You

Image
From: Elf ; Year: 1972; Genre: Hard Rock I don't really know why, but I thoroughly felt like hearing something from the late-great Ronnie James Dio today, but I wanted something different. So, I decided to peruse through his work with the band Elf, which had actually existed as The Electric Elves and The Elves for years prior, but apparently they only released singles under those two names.  The only part I can say I dislike about this track in particular from the band's debut album of their namesake is that it's not long enough; I would especially like it if it was at least two minutes longer. 😜 I like this one that much across the board. Also, with the fact that Dio played bass guitar on this entire record makes it that much more awesome! Really, how could Ronnie James Dio be any cooler?   Hear I'm Coming Back For You on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Joan Baez - Diamonds & Rust   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Wootens - The In...

5615. Dio - Rainbow in the Dark

Image
From: Holy Diver ; Year: 1983; Genre: Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Yesterday was a hard and stressful day filled with high emotion and it really wore me out even today. One of the bright spots happened to be that a lot of Ronnie James Dio's music came on, which really helped take my mind off things and was a comfort as always. Once again, I am very surprised that this monumental piece if hard rock/metal had not graced my blog yet being that it is one of my favourite songs.   Hear Rainbow in the Dark on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: War - You Got the Power   My song pick 2 years ago today: Nocturnal Rites - New World Messiah   My song pick 3 years ago today: Duran Duran - The Universe Alone   My song pick 4 years ago today: The Human League - Don't You Want Me Baby My song pick 5 years ago today: Marillion - Incommunicado My song pick 6 years ago today: Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah My song pick 7 years ago today: Missing Link - Time Will ...

Image
From: We Wish You a Metal Xmas and a Headbanging New Year ; Year: 2008; Genre: Metal/Christmas Music Getting into the final week prior to Christmas, so, I'm back to picking some Seasonal music. After hearing this version all other renditions will seem so much lesser; Ronnie James Dio's vocals are... wow, just wow.
