3049. Foghat - Third Time Lucky (First Time I Was a Fool)

Image
From: Boogie Motel ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock I had music from Foghat this morning and was really surprised to discover that I'm over eight years and 3000 picks in without one of their songs on my list, so I'm taking care of that now. This is one of their singles that did okay, but you don't hear it a lot; a good song though all the same. Hear Third Time Lucky (First Time I Was a Fool) on YouTube. 3047. The Grass Roots - Lady Pleasure

Image
From: Golden Grass ; Year: 1968; Genre: Rock Yesterday while I was out and about I had this song come on. I checked to see if I'd already picked it, and surprisingly I hadn't. I've always loved this one; it's among my favourites from the band. The time-tested use of minors in the verses and then shifting into majors in the chorus is one of the main hooks to this track. 3045. Johnny Cash - Thanksgiving Prayer

Image
Unreleased; Year: 1993; Genre: Country/Folk I wanted to pick an apropos song for this Thanksgiving Holiday and happened to remember this one from the late-great Johnny Cash. This one was actually never officially released and only can be heard on an episode of the television show Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman , which was a somewhat popular show that was on in the mid 1990s. It was a Thanksgiving episode that both Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash guest starred. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving! Hear Thanksgiving Prayer on YouTube. Image
From: Rainbow: Decca Years ; Year: 2000 (1970); Genre: Folk Rock/Sunshine Pop I've discovered yet another band that I've apparently only made one pick from; the Scottish band The Marmalade. Image
From: I Gotcha ; Year: 1972; Genre: Funk/Soul I had part of this very funky song on my mind over the last week and I was waiting for this Funky Friday to pick it. Image
From: A New Time - A New Day ; Year: 1968; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Soul I'm continuing picking songs from bands that I've neglected for a while; this is an earlier single from The Chamber Brothers, who are most noted for their hit song: Time Has Come Today . 3037. Link Wray - Comanche

Image
From: Link Wray & The Wraymen ; Year: 1959/60; Genre: Rock & Roll/Blues Rock Here's another artist that I've neglected more than a bit: legendary guitarist Link Wray. You gotta love that raucous, dirty, and distorted guitar; might seem passé today, but you have to remember this was the late 1950's that he was playing like that; truly revolutionary. Hear Comanche on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Foo Fighters - Everlong My song pick two years ago today: Rush - The Analog Kid My song pick three years ago today: The Alan Parsons Project - The Tell-Tale Heart My song pick four years ago today: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Ethiopia My song pick five years ago today: Bass Extremes - Glorious Pastorius My song pick six years ago today: Alexander Courage - Where No Man Has Gone Before (Theme From Star Trek ) My song pick seven years ago today: The Temptations - Get Ready My song pick eight years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - N

3035. The Yardbirds - For Your Love

Image
From: For Your Love ; Year: 1965; Genre: Rock Strangely enough I haven't picked on from The Yardbirds for about six years now; definitely I needed to choose another one from them. 3034. Earthless - Equus October

Image
From: From The Ages ; Year: 2013; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock Today is another day that I'm revisiting a band that I haven't pick one from in some time. Clocking in at just under six minutes, this is one of the more brief songs out there from Earthless, but despite the shorter length of the track the musicianship more than makes up for it. Hear Equus October on YouTube. Image
From: In the Right Place ; Year: 1973; Genre: Funk/R&B I happened upon and remembered this song earlier this week and thought it would be a perfect pick for my 114th consecutive Funky Friday pick. 3031. Missing Link - Time Will Change

Image
From: Nevergreen! ; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock/Jazz Rock Picking another song from a band I haven't pick from in a while. Sadly this amazing German prog/rock jazz fusion only had one album to their name and Nevergreen! was it. 3030. Forest - Autumn Childhood

Image
From: The Full Circle ; Year: 1970; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Folk Whilst looking over what songs I've previously chosen I happened to notice that I haven't picked one from the psychedelic folk band Forest in quite a few years so it seems; I must rectify that. They are a band that I discovered and immediately started liking what I heard; it's a shame that they only lasted a few years and only a couple of albums. Great, beautiful song with haunting lyrics that definitely fits this time of year. Hear Autumn Childhood on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Alestorm - 1741 (The Battle of Cartagena) My song pick two years ago today: Genesis - Ripple My song pick three years ago today: Joachim Witt - Goldener Reiter My song pick four years ago today: Savatage - Memory My song pick five years ago today: Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon My song pick six years ago today: S Sgt Barry Sadler - Ballad of the Green Berets My song pick seven years a

Image
From: Siroco ; Year: 1987; Genre: Flamenco After hearing some this morning, I really got in the mood for some Flamenco music. 3026. Rush - Mission

Image
From: Hold Your Fire ; Year: 1987; Genre: Progressive Rock I'm in the mood for something from Rush today; specifically something from this often overlooked and maligned album. I've always liked and had a special place for their mid-late '80s music even though it's mostly inferior to their music from a decade to five or so years prior. Anyway, this was one of the four lead singles off their '87 release and is still played quite frequently by the band live to this day. Hear Mission on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Amnesty - Love Fades My song pick two years ago today: Gerry Rafferty - Days Gone Down (Still Got The Light In Your Eyes) My song pick three years ago today: Tommy James - Mirage My song pick four years ago today: The Rolling Stones - In Another Land My song pick five years ago today: Iron Maiden - Satellite 15... 3024. Peter, Paul & Mary - I Dig Rock And Roll Music

Image
From: Album 1700 ; Year: 1967; Genre: Folk Rock I had some of Peter, Paul & Mary's music on my mind last night and this morning; as always, I took it as a sign to pick a song from them. I actually forgot that they originally did this song, which in the lyrics both honours and somewhat lampoons some popular bands and the industry at the time as well as bringing their honesty into question. But for me it's that great bass and acoustic guitar that really brings the track to my attention. Hear I Dig Rock And Roll Music on YouTube. 3022. Yes - It Was All We Knew

Image
From: Heaven & Earth ; Year: 2014; Genre: Rock At first I never really cared for this, the most recent album from the legendary band Yes, but ever since the passing of Chris Squire I've been revisiting and liking it more. Essentially it will be the last proper studio album to feature him and the music isn't bad, but in my opinion it's still not at the level of their best material or even the previous album. Hear It Was All We Knew on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Billy Joel - Worse Comes to Worse My song pick two years ago today: Marillion - Assassing My song pick three years ago today: Ian Anderson - Kismet in Suburbia My song pick four years ago today: Hawkwind - Fable of a Failed Race My song pick five years ago today: Billy Joel - It's Still Rock and Roll to Me My song pick six years ago today: Daft Punk - One More Time My song pick seven years ago today: Al Stewart - Time Passages My song pick eight years ago today: Stealer

3020. Creed - Torn

Image
From: My Own Prison ; Year: 1997; Genre: Alternative Rock/Hard Rock I've never thought of myself as a fan of the band Creed, but I don't dislike them either and in my opinion their music isn't bad either.
