From: A Hangover You Don't Deserve ; Year: 2004; Genre: Rock This one's been coming on my playlist off and on for the past two weeks, so I'm taking it as a sign that I should choose it. It's definitely a tongue-in-cheek way to looking at nostalgia; through the eyes of a middle aged individual not wanting to let go of the past. Plus the music is quite catchy and fun to boot. From: Agents of Fortune ; Year: 1976; Genre: Hard Rock Agents of Fortune is a splendid album; had my first copy on 8-Track, which costed me, I believe, 50 cents at a yard sale. Anybody who's listened to 8-Track tapes would know what I'm saying when I "path of songs" or something similar. Well, my "path" through the songs included this one, which is one of my favourites on the album and in my opinion one of BÖC's better songs. Hear E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) on YouTube. From: Billy Idol ; Year: 1982; Genre: Rock/New Wave When sitting down to make this pick this song popped into my head and wouldn't leave. It's another instance where I was sure I had already picked it, but I guess not. White Wedding is one of the fun songs to play as a bassist; it certainly drives the song. Hear White Wedding on YouTube. From: Pet Sounds ; Year: 1966; Genre: Pop/Rock I've had The Beach Boys on my mind since last night, so I thought I'd pick another one of my favourites. I've always loved that booming counter line to the melody that bass, (I believe played by the legendary Carol Kaye), puts into it. And of course the vocals are just amazing as well. From: Four Wheel Drive ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock Wanted to pick a BTO song today; I was surprised when I discovered that Hey You had not been picked yet. From what I understand this was an answer to the trash talk Randy Bachman's former bandmate from The Guess Who, Burton Cummings, who said he'd never make it again in the music industry after he quit the band, but he and BTO definitely did. I absolutely love the mix this song had in the studio; all the instruments are perfectly clear. In particular, C.F. Turner's growling bass comes through perfectly. Hear Hey You on YouTube.
