6848. The United States of America - Where Is Yesterday

Image
From: The United States of America ; Year: 1968; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock Very odd, but as of late I have been hearing about this short-lived experimental rock band a bit once again. I've always liked them since discovering the band quite a few years ago, but I've never been huge into their music.  They only lasted about one year and only made a single album, but every member went on to much greater things. The astounding talent within it really was its downfall; "too many chefs and not enough cooks," so to speak. The musical differences and strong, differing directions I suppose led to the fate. However, despite all of this, some have been looking back and finally seeing the true cutting edge musical ideas and implementation thereof; better late than never, eh?   Hear Where Is Yesterday on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Cranberries - Sunday     My song pick 2 years ago today: Gloryhammer - Vorpal Laserblaster...

3065. The United States of America - Stranded in Time

From: The United States of America ; Year: 1967; Genre: Progressive Rock/Psychedelic Rock I noticed yet another band that I've only picked one song from, and that was quite a while ago; I really should just make a theme out of this if I keep doing it. In this shorter track you can hear a great deal of Beatles influence, especially from the vocal harmonies and string arrangements. But the song is still quite unique, especially after the second section kicks in. Hear Stranded in Time on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Boston - Can'tcha Say (Believe in Me)/Still in Love My song pick two years ago today: Molly Hatchet - Dreams I'll Never See My song pick three years ago today: Miles Davis - Straight, No Chaser My song pick four years ago today: Triumph - Hold On My song pick five years ago today: Jack Black and Jason Segel - The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth My song pick six years ago today: John Denver - Poems, Prayers and Promises My son...

1241 The United States of America - The Garden of Earthly Delights

1241 The United States of America - The Garden of Earthly Delights In the mood for something different and weird this morning. This one comes from the short-lived Psychedelic/Progressive/Experimental/Electronic Rock band: The United States of America; not to be confused with the popular Folk/Rock band America . The band broke up shortly after the release of their self-titled debut album for apparently a variety of reasons. When I first found out about the band and album one member's name in particular stuck out: Ed Bogas. For those who do not immediately recognize that name there is a very good chance you have heard his music. He has written the scores and music for many films, television shows, and video games over the years. If you watched the Garfield and/or Peanuts cartoons back in the '80s you definitely have heard his material. I remember back when I was playing video games on my old Commodore 64 I saw his name pop up quite a bit in the credits, especially in the Accol...
