4406. Jethro Tull - Motoreyes

Image
From: 20 Years of Jethro Tull ; Year: 1988 (1981); Genre: Rock This is one of my favourite hidden gems from 'Tull. It was part of the Broadsword and the Beast recording session, but has never even made it to the remaster version of the record. I really like the '80s rock feel of this song; very different, which is probably a reason it never made it on the album. Hear Motoreyes on YouTube. From Desolation Boulevard (U.S. release); Year: 1974 (1973); Genre: Glam Rock Haven't picked one from Sweet in a while now and since they've also been on my mind I thought I'd go ahead and pick another one. This one's definitely not everybody's cup 'o tea so to speak; I've noted that with this song in particular it seems to be either you like it or you hate it. I'm in with the first group; I think it's a fun song to listen to. Hear Ballroom Blitz on YouTube. Image
From: Stray Cats ; Year: 1981; Genre: Rock 'n Roll/Rockabilly/Blues Rock Had this one on my mind lately and I also realized that I had yet to pick a song from the Stray Cats/Brian Setzer; definitely need to remedy that one. 4397. The Fixx - Red Skies

Image
From: Shuttered Room ; Year: 1982; Genre: New Wave Boy, this one brings back some memories; the whole song is excellent in my opinion all the way across the board, I just love the early 80s New Wave sound. Anyway, this is a rather dark song about a coming nuclear war/apocalypse, those raised in the '80s and decades before will know the feeling of constant doom everyone felt during the Cold War ; literally we did not know if we'd make it to adulthood. That's the feelings they covey in Red Skies , it's a truly well-written and produced track. Hear Red Skies on YouTube. 4391. Hawkwind - Arioch

Image
From: The Chronicle of the Black Sword ; Year: 1985; Genre: Hard Rock/Progressive Rock Arioch is a bonus track that originally did not appear on the album; its the namesake of a very malevolent character in the Elric of Melniboné series by Michael Moorcock. This entire album was written around those books as well, and this one is an instrumental piece that kind of acts as a theme to that character. Hear Arioch on YouTube. 4388. Caramba - Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot

Image
From: Caramba ; Year: 1981; Genre: Pop/Comedy This very weird song started running through my mind after some 30+ years of not hearing it. Chances are, (if you lived in the 1980s), you've heard this tune at some point. Basically "island" beats/music combined with nonsensical lyrics; it's very easy to get this one stuck in you head, but is fun to listen to all the same. Hear Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot on YouTube. Image
From: The Temptations Sing Smokey ; Year: 1965 (1964); Genre: Soul/Motown/R&B I believe, if my memory serves me right, this is the first song from Motown that I learned on the bass.
