6218. Klaatu - Anus of Uranus

Image
From: 3:47 EST ; Year: 1976; Genre: Space Rock Weird that this one was released twice with slightly different titles, but, if I am merely guessing it probably had something to do with the label not liking the use of a the word. The later version from their debut LP is slightly longer and has a much more "high fidelity" sound to it than the single released three years prior. Despite the juvenile, tongue-in-cheek wordplay, the song is quite solid with a great, driving four on the floor rhythm for this spacy tune.   Hear Anus of Uranus on YouTube. Hear the earlier single "Hanus of Uranus" on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Rockwell - Obscene Phone Caller   My song pick 2 years ago today: Zebrahead - Playmate of the Year   My song pick 3 years ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Mideast Vacation   My song pick 4 years ago today: Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy   My song pick 5 years ago today: Dream Theater - Falls Into the Light ...

5727. Klaatu - The Loneliest of Creatures

Image
From: Hope ; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock Was meaning to choose one from another band, but just so happened to have the music of the band Klaatu on my mind, so I'm going with it instead. This is kind of a bombastic sounding track, especially in the pre-chorus and choruses; to me this song almost sounds like a mix between Electric Light Orchestra and Queen in their most extreme states musically. Whatever the case, I thoroughly enjoy hearing the music from this band.   Hear The Loneliest of Creatures on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Voodoo Child (Slight Return)   My song pick 2 years ago today: Chet Atkins and Merle Travis - Nine Pound Hammer   My song pick 3 years ago today: Blondie - One Way or Another   My song pick 4 years ago today: Faith No More - The Real Thing My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Doctor To My Disease My song pick 6 years ago today: Dire Straits - Private In...

5608. Klaatu - So Said The Lighthouse Keeper

Image
From: Hope ; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock This is kind of a neat track mostly for the reason of how much fascinating music and story are contained within the just-under six minute length of the song. From what I understand, this record, Hope , is a "loose" concept album about space-faring individuals exploring new worlds, which is quite cool in and of itself.   Hear So Said The Lighthouse Keeper on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Fair But So Uncool   My song pick 2 years ago today: Nirvana - I Know You're Right   My song pick 3 years ago today: Rush - The Big Wheel   My song pick 4 years ago today: Genesis - Invisible Touch My song pick 5 years ago today: Jim Croce - One Less Set of Footsteps My song pick 6 years ago today: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Jeremy Bender My song pick 7 years ago today: Peter, Paul & Mary - I Dig Rock And Roll Music My song pick 8 years ago today: Ozzy Os...

4985. Klaatu - Maybe I'll Move to Mars

Image
From: Magentalane ; Year: 1981; Genre: Rock This one has somewhat of a feel similar to that of Electric Light Orchestra's sound of the same period. It's an interesting song musically with odd and a bit whimsical lyrics telling a story of a man telling his friend that he's moving to Mars.   Hear Maybe I'll Move to Mars on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Journey - Just the Same Way   My song pick 2 years ago today: Graham Central Station - Mirror My song pick 3 years ago today: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Little Wing My song pick 4 years ago today: The Cosmic Sound Orchestra - Movin' Groovin' My song pick 5 years ago today: Tommy James and the Shondells - Crystal Blue Persuasion My song pick 6 years ago today: B. Image
From: Endangered Species ; Year: 1980; Genre: Rock Had some Klaatu come on my playlist yesterday and as usual thought I would pick another one from the band. 4650. Klaatu - A Routine Day

Image
From: Sir Army Suit ; Year: 1978; Genre: Rock/Pop This is a very "Beatlesque" sounding track all the way around, but at the same time a lot of their own sound is present as well. This song is also known for the animated music video, which from wot I understand was to be part of an animated special that was to feature more animated music videos that would've been titled " Happy New Year Planet Earth " that never has been released. Watch the music video on YouTube. Image
From: Hope ; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock Finally I've started to remember the songs I've been meaning to pick; I guess the mind is the first thing to go, right? :P Anyway, to me this song sound a lot like a fusion between King Crimson and Electric Light Orchestra: very out there and pretty to listen to. 4208. Klaatu - Little Neutrino

Image
From: 3:47 EST ; Year: 1976; Genre: Progressive Rock/Space Rock Going back to this band again; I find their music of "Beatles meets King Crimson/Alan Parsons Project" very fascinating. On Little Neutrino they really mix traditional instrumentation with all sorts of, cutting edge for the time, electronic devices. Hear Little Neutrino on YouTube. 4092. Klaatu - Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft

Image
From: 3:14 EST ; Year: 1976; Genre: Space Rock/Progressive Rock For the last couple of days I've had this song on my mind. It's funny because I had not heard it in at least 30 some years, or so it would seem. Anyway, this one has very much a Beatlesque sound to it; you can tell they were at least a large influence. There's a noted theatrical feel to it with a lot of great instrumentation. Hear Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft on YouTube.
