Image
K. 361/370a ; Year: 1782; Genre: Classical Period/classical Another "number rollover" pick; leaving 3600s behind and beginning with 3700s. Without a doubt I needed to choose a special song for the occasion; this rather famous piece by Mozart came to mind; mostly though because of its catalogue number of 370a. 3699. Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez

Image
From: Rodrigo: Complete Concertos for Guitar and Harp incl. Concierto de Aranjuez ; Year: 1999 (1939); Genre: 20th Century classical/Flamenco We've all had those times when there's a song playing in your head and because it's an instrumental/classical piece or such; this is one that was driving me insane for years now. However, the other day I finally discovered its title and who wrote it, so, yes, this is today's pick. If you've heard the piece before it's most likely the second movement, which is definitely notable. The flamenco guitar and the woodwinds really drive this composition and bring out so many emotions; definitely one of the best pieces written last century. Watch a full performance of Concierto de Aranjuez on YouTube. Or hear only the most famous second movement on YouTube. Image
From: Out of the Blue ; Year: 1977; Genre: Symphonic Rock/Pop Today I have had ELO on my brain, so as I always do I'm picking one of their songs. 3694. Jethro Tull - Rhythm In Gold

Image
From: The Broadsword and the Beast ; Year: 1982; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock I felt like picking some Jethro Tull from the early '80s this morning. Along with many of the songs from the album there is a throwback to their late '70s hard rock sound whilst adding in some of the new wave/rock sounds coming in from that time period. 3682. Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman

Image
From: Wichita Lineman ; Year: 1968; Genre: Country The other day Glen Campbell passed away after his long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Whilst I've never been a huge fan of his music, I still like a lot of it and thought it would be good to pick one of the songs from the legendary musician/performer. This one was another hit recorded by the " Wrecking Crew ," which Glen Campbell was a member of before he hit it big. One interesting fact about this song is that it essentially contains a bass solo; Glen Campbell borrowed Carol Kaye's bass and played on the solo. Hear Wichita Lineman on YouTube. Image
From: Chicago Transit Authority ; Year: 1969; Genre: Jazz Fusion Caught a concert by Chicago yesterday on television; this track was, of course, on their playlist; it's among my favourites from the band. I just love the horns especially in this one. Interesting piece of trivia here: at the time of their first album they were known as Chicago Transit Authority, but were forced to change their name due to the actual Chicago Transit Authority threatening legal action unless they didn't, so they shortened it down to the band's name we all know today. Hear Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? on YouTube.
