1616 Northern Kings - Wanted Dead or Alive From: Rethroned , Year: 2008 Genre: Metal For quite some time I was in a band that happened to cover a lot of Bon Jovi, which caused me to get a bit tired of hearing them and of course having a wife that loves the band only helped to exacerbate the problem. I still do like the band and their music and am finally getting past that lethargy. Anyway, when I heard this Power Metal cover of this Bon Jovi hit song by the Finnish super group Northern Kings it was like a breath of fresh air blew into it and made it fresh to me again. It has a nice 80's Iron Maiden brand of Metal feel to it; Marco Hietala does an awesome job on the vocals. Here the studio version on YouTube. 1325 Northern Kings - Don't Stop Believin' From: Reborn, Year: 2007 'Tis day two of my cover song theme week; this is a cover of Journey's anthemic hit song by the Finnish Symphonic Metal group Northern Kings. Being that Northern Kings is a cover band/side project for four Finnish Metal musicians there were quite a few songs to choose from, but for no reason other than I like it I picked it. As you would expect, this song has the big Symphonic Metal sound to it and it has a rather nice galloping rhythm as well. Marco Hietala's vocals are one of the best aspects of the song in my opinion. 829 ( Northern Kings - Hello ) A while ago I found out about this band through researching the European Metal bands that I am a fan of. Northern Kings are a supergroup made up of: Marco Hietala (bassist/vocals for Nightwish and Tarot among others), Tony Kakko (Vocalist for Sonata Arctica), Jarkko Ahola (Vocalist/Bassist for Teräsbetoni among others), and Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto (Vocalist for Charon among others). Anyway, Northern Kings are a side project for these musicians in which they come together to make covers of songs in their unique style of Metal. This was one of their songs that caught my attention immediately, it is their cover of the famous song by Lionel Richie, which can be found here on YouTube. They did an excellent job with their interpretation of the song, the lyrics and chord progression do not get lost at all in the conversion to Symphonic Metal. Here is the studio version on YouTube.
