5235. Black Sabbath - When Death Calls

Image
From: Headless Cross ; Year: 1989; Genre: Metal It's once again the end of October, which also means it is Halloween. It just so happened that I was listening to some '80s Black Sabbath and thought it would make a great pick for today. What's really neat about this song is that Brian May from Queen contributes a guitar solo, which in my opinion is exceptionally cool.    Hear When Death Calls on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath   My song pick 2 years ago today: Helloween - The Time of the Oath   My song pick 3 years ago today: Concrete Blonde - Darkening of the Light My song pick 4 years ago today: Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name My song pick 5 years ago today: Misterio - Stinking Zombies My song pick 6 years ago today: Helloween - Halloween My song pick 7 years ago today: The Jimmy Castor Bunch - Dracula Parts 1 & 2 My song pick 8 years ago today: Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt Kickers - T

5234. Rolling Stones - Laugh, I Nearly Died

Image
From: A Bigger Bang ; Year: 2005; Genre: Blues Rock I heard this song the other day on the television and thought it would make a good pick today. 5232. Steve Vai - Tender Surrender

Image
From: Alien Love Secrets ; Year: 1995; Genre: Rock This is yet another popular one of Steve Vai's songs that really showcases his musicianship. It's not quite what people expect when they think of his music, being that this one is slower and played with a lot of feeling in style reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix.    Hear Tender Surrender on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Kinks - You Really Got Me My song pick 2 years ago today: Faith No More - Cone of Shame   My song pick 3 years ago today: April Wine - One More Time My song pick 4 years ago today: Riggs - Heartbeat My song pick 5 years ago today: Dazz Band - To the Roof My song pick 6 years ago today: Jan & Dean - The Little Old Lady from Pasadena My song pick 7 years ago today: Buddy Holley and the Crickets - Maybe Baby My song pick 8 years ago today: Lou Reed - Satellite of Love My song pick 9 years ago today: Alestorm - Barrett's Privateers My song pick 10 years ago today:

5229. Al Stewart - Flying Sorcery

Image
From: Year of the Cat ; Year: 1976; Genre: Rock Heard this one today whilst on the road; Al Stewart has always been one of my very early influences due to the fact that my mom and dad played his music quite a bit. As with most of his songs, the music and the lyrics go together to make an excellent blend of artistic creativity. I really like how his songs are more or less a little story/film told to music and is very intricately and vividly written.   Hear Flying Sorcery on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Stone Temple Pilots - Down   My song pick 2 years ago today: Steeleye Span - Fire & Ice   My song pick 3 years ago today: Béla Fleck & The Flecktones - Weed Whacker My song pick 4 years ago today: Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band- The Fire Down Below My song pick 5 years ago today: Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) My song pick 6 years ago today: Judas Priest - You Got Another Thing Commin' My song pick 7 years ago today: Van Halen

5227. Nightwish - Harvest

Image
From: Human :II: Nature : Year: 2020; Genre: Progressive Metal/Folk Metal Yesterday I had a slew of Nighwish's music come on whilst driving around; I really have not paid that much attention to the band for the last few years, so I decided to look in and see wot they're up to. This one comes off their most recent album and has a noted prog/folk feel to it mix in with their normal style of music, whilst not my personal favourite song from them, it's definitely worth a listen.   Hear Harvest on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Kool and the Gang - Funky Granny   My song pick 2 years ago today: Soundgarden - Blood on the Valley Floor   My song pick 3 years ago today: Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO) - Away From Home My song pick 4 years ago today: King Crimson - The Night Watch My song pick 5 years ago today: Porcupine Tree - Trains My song pick 6 years ago today: Three Dog Night - Feelin' Alright My song pick 7 years ago today: Bob Seger & the Sil

5224. The Kinks - Money Talks

Image
From: Preservation Act 2 ; Year: 1974; Genre: Rock Thought long and hard for a pick today and finally settled on a song from one of my favourite bands. From wot I understand this is an album you either love or hate depending of who you are. I, personally like it; there's a lot of thought-provoking music and subject matter throughout the record; this song is no exception. It has a very heavily blues-inspired feel throughout along with a very interesting subject matter that takes a very pragmatic position concerning people and money, which is based on the point-of-view of one of the main characters in the overall concept album.   Hear Money Talks on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Ozric Tentacles - Humboldt Currant   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bob Dylan - All Along the Watchtower   My song pick 3 years ago today: The O'Jays - Time To Get Down My song pick 4 years ago today: Dazz Band - Let it Whip My song pick 5 years ago today: Benny Carter - Things Ain

5223. The Eagles - The Disco Strangler

Image
From: The Long Run ; Year: 1979; Genre: Rock Here's another one that I had not heard in quite some time that just popped into my mind for no reason whatsoever. From what I understand it was one of those many songs at the time that was written in the backlash of the disco movement; the band apparently did not like the genre. Despite this they use a pretty good disco-inspired beat and bass as a foundation to the song.   Hear The Disco Strangler on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Ian Anderson - Meliora Sequamur   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Delgados - Strathcona Slung   My song pick 3 years ago today: Genesis - Misunderstanding My song pick 4 years ago today: Pallas - The Blinding Darkness of Science My song pick 5 years ago today: Aerosmith - Remember (Walking in the Sand) My song pick 6 years ago today: AC/DC - Money Talks My song pick 7 years ago today: The Doors - People are Strange My song pick 8 years ago today: Django Reinhardt & Stéphane

Image
From: Children of the World ; Year: 1976; Genre: Disco/Funk I realized today that I had yet to choose a song for my blog from the Bee Gees "disco" period. 5216. Thin Lizzy - Borderline

Image
From: Johnny the Fox ; Year: 1976; Genre: Blues Rock This is a rather pretty track that has to do with lost love and is, from what I read, autobiographical to experiences to a member of the band: guitarist Brian Robertson. 5215. Aerosmith - Crazy

Image
From: Get a Grip ; Year: 1993; Genre: Rock I have a lot of this album's music on my mind for some reason; I perused through the songs that I had already chosen from the record, which are quite a few, and found that I had not chosen this one. Image
From: You Don't Mess Around With Jim ; Year: 1972; Genre: Folk Rock/Blues Rock I don't know wot it is, but there's just something amazing and comforting about Jim Croce's music; it still speaks volumes after all these years. This album in particular has been my favourite from the man; I still have my 8-Track tape I bought for 15¢ at an old record store. This was one of the songs I listened to when I let it play through; I've always loved that relatable tale told through the song and the bluesy rock music that goes along with it.
