6793. Heart - (Love Me Like Music) I'll Be Your Song

Image
From: Dreamboat Annie ; Year: 1975; Genre: Rock I believe that I've said it prior, but Dreamboat Annie almost plays like a Greatest Hits album with only a few exceptions. And even then, the two songs that don't get a lot, if any, radio play aren't bad; of course this is one of them. With all of that said, this track is by no means bad and is better than many other acts' best recordings in my opinion, just it got out-shown by the greatness of the others on the record.     Hear (Love Me Like Music) I'll Be Your Song on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Brave Belt - Put It In a Song     My song pick 2 years ago today: Blancmange - God's Kitchen   My song pick 3 years ago today: Rick & The Entire World - No No No Momerto   My song pick 4 years ago today: Faith No More - Stripsearch   My song pick 5 years ago today: Depeche Mode - World in my Eyes   My song pick 6 years ago today: The Allman Brothers Band ...

6703. Heart - Dog & Butterfly

Image
From: Dog & Butterfly ; Year: 1978; Genre: Folk Rock In my opinion this one of the Wilson sister's best songs they wrote. It reminds me a lot of Joni Mitchell from around the same era; whilst the music is more rock oriented and less jazzy just the way they weave the symbolism of dealing with personal struggles likened to the dog relentlessly trying to catch what is out of reach. It is very similar in the way Joni Mitchell compared her playing guitar to jets flying in the air in her song Amelia and the predatory nature of the proverbial  Coyote to that of a man in a bar trying to "score." I just love it when master songwriters, like Anne and Nancy Wilson confront a serious subject with some light-hearted whimsy; just makes for something special.   Hear Dog & Butterfly on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Alan Parsons Project - Lucifer     My song pick 2 years ago today: Midnight Oil - At the Time of Writing   My s...

6486. Heart - Little Queen

Image
From: Little Queen ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock I always love it when Anne Wilson gets saucy with her powerful, strutting vocals like with this song. This entire album for that matter the band seemingly had a humongous chip on their collective shoulders, and rightly so with how their former record label and overall music media treated them.   Watch the music video on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Rhythm Machine - Freakish Love     My song pick 2 years ago today: War - Don't Let No One Get You Down   My song pick 3 years ago today: Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues   My song pick 4 years ago today: Peter Schilling - Major Tom (Coming Home)   My song pick 5 years ago today: Pallas - The Alien Messiah   My song pick 6 years ago today: The Beach Boys - Your Summer Dream My song pick 7 years ago today: Blue Cheer - Rock Me Baby My song pick 8 years ago today: The Byrds - So You Want to be a Rock 'n' Roll Star ...

5886. Heart - Without You

Image
From: Magazine ; Year: 1977/78; Genre: Rock/Hard Rock Just felt like some earlier songs from Heart today; this magnificent cover of the Badfinger song, which was made famous by Harry Nilson was exactly wot I had in mind. As with the vast majority of their material from the time, Without You is at the level where you all but forget the other versions prior or since. I absolutely adore Anne Wilson's vocals throughout; so much power and emotion.   Hear Without You on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Stanley Clarke - We Supply   My song pick 2 years ago today: ZZ Top - Stages   My song pick 3 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Strip Cartoon   My song pick 4 years ago today: Steve Vai - The Animal My song pick 5 years ago today: Savatage - Strange Wings My song pick 6 years ago today: Bay City Rollers - Saturday Night My song pick 7 years ago today: Luther - It's Good for the Soul (Parts I & II) My song pick 8 years ago today: Gu...

5396. Heart - The Oldest Story in the World

Image
From: Jupiter's Darling ; Year: 2004; Genre: Hard Rock For some reason I felt like listening to Heart's album Jupiter's Darling once again. The Oldest Story in the World was apparently one of the bigger hits off of the record and has their great hard rock sound throughout.   Hear Oldest Story in the World on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Cream - Sitting on Top of the World   My song pick 2 years ago today: Van Der Graaf Generator - Forever Falling   My song pick 3 years ago today: Genesis - Behind the Lines My song pick 4 years ago today: Rush - Emotion Detector My song pick 5 years ago today: Al Di Meola - The Wizard My song pick 6 years ago today: Rhapsody of Fire - Dark Wings of Steel My song pick 7 years ago today: Parliament - Flash Light My song pick 8 years ago today: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Breakdown My song pick 9 years ago today: Marillion - Garden Party My song pick 10 years ago today: Alestorm - Hea...

5096. Heart - Lost Angel

Image
From: Jupiter's Darling ; Year: 2004; Genre: Hard Rock This song caught my ear the other day and I knew I needed to pick it. What I like the most is the choice of chords that have great mix of tension and harmony throughout; the vocals by Anne Wilson are incredible as ever. This is definitely a "sleeper" song in that it is a hidden gem on the record and in my opinion was worthy of being a lead single.   Hear Lost Angel on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Steeleye Span - Harvest   My song pick 2 years ago today: Fat Larry's Band - Act Like You Know My song pick 3 years ago today: Laura Branigan - Deep in the Dark My song pick 4 years ago today: Bay City Rollers - I Only Want to Be With You My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - One Brown Mouse My song pick 6 years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - It's Over My song pick 7 years ago today: Petula Clark - Kiss Me Goodbye My song pick 8 years ago today: The Walter Murphy ...

5076. Heart - Never

Image
From: Heart ; Year: 1985; Genre: Hard Rock For the last couple of weeks I've had this song from Heart's "hair band" era running through my mind off and on. Even though they got in with the zeitgeist of the mid 1980s their music really didn't suffer a lot and the band was at the top of their game like normal.   Hear Never on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Nice - Country Pie/Brandenburg Concerto No. 6   My song pick 2 years ago today: Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway My song pick 3 years ago today: Stanley Clarke - Opening (Statement)/He Lives On (Story About the Last Journey of a Warrior) My song pick 4 years ago today: Ozric Tentacles - Spacebase My song pick 5 years ago today: ABBA - Two for the Price of One My song pick 6 years ago today: Grateful Dead - Dire Wolf My song pick 7 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Queen and Country My song pick 8 years ago today: Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne My song pick 9 years a...

Image
From: Dog & Butterfly ; Year: 1978; Genre: Hard Rock This one has been playing around in my mind for the last little bit; I like it and so I'm picking it today. 3968. Heart - White Lightning & Wine

Image
From: Dreamboat Annie ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock Had this one pop on my playlist last night when driving home; knew I had my next pick. 3956. Heart - Bad Animals

Image
From: Bad Animals ; Year: 1987; Genre: Hard Rock Had this song pop into my mind today and knew I was going to choose it. 3428. Heart - Magic Man

Image
From: Dreamboat Annie ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock I listen to a bit of the Dreamboat Annie album yesterday and I thought I'd pick another one from it. Again, I'm kind of surprised that I have not picked Magic Man yet; it's one of my favourites from the band. It's definitely among their best ones; great, powerful performances all around, and you especially gotta love that synthesizer/guitar solo. Hear Magic Man on YouTube. 2684 Heart - Sing Child

Image
From: Dreamboat Annie ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock When starting posting this morning I had another song in mind and ready to pick, but for some reason this one came into my mind and I just had to choose it instead. This is one of their heavier, riff driven songs, and of course the flute solo only adds more to such a great song. Hear Sing Child on YouTube. 2248 Heart - Barracuda

Image
From: Little Queen ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock I felt like listening to some Heart this morning, and you can't go wrong with this heavy attitude laden song; it's one of their best. Even though you've heard this track so many times, the intro/main riff immediately grabs you every time. Hear Barracuda on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: The Alan Parson's Project - Breakdown My song pick two years ago today: Pink Floyd - Interstellar Overdrive My song pick three years ago today: Earth, Wind & Fire - Lets Groove My song pick four years ago today: Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd - Samba Triste My song pick five years ago today: The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary My song pick six years ago today - April Wine - Roller

2053 Heart - Fanatic

Image
From: Fanatic ; Year: 2012; Genre: Hard Rock Since waking up this morning I've had a myriad of Heart songs running through my head. After a while I started getting a bit curious as to what their current sound was like, so I looked up their latest work. For more than a few years I haven't really kept up with what Heart was up to. I'm pleased to say that their current sound is somewhat similar to their classic hard rock sound. Anyway, here's the title track from last year's release: Fanatic ; I'm still amazed at the sheer amount of amazing music that came out last year. Hear Fanatic on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love My song pick two years ago today: Queensrÿche - Roads to Madness My song pick three years ago today: Jethro Tull - Roll Yer Own My song pick four years ago today: Naturally 7 - Wall of Sound My song pick five years ago today: Nightwish - Bye Bye Beautiful

1744 Heart - Crazy on You

Image
From: Dreamboat Annie ; Year: 1976; Genre: Hard Rock I heard this great song, which is one of my favourites from Heart, while I was driving this morning. I thought that I might have picked it at some point, but apparently I hadn't. I've always found Heart's Dreamboat Annie a rather interesting album; I've noticed that it's not too often that a band's debut album, which usually consists of unfocused material that sounds more like a hodgepodge of the band members' influential artists' music rather than their own, becomes one of their best. However, with Heart's debut album that, of course, was a completely different story; even to this day six of the album's ten tracks can regularly be heard on the radio and two of those four that don't get regular play are extensions of the title track. Talk about striking the mother lode right off the bat. Anyway, as I said before, this is one of my favourites from the band and is just as much fun to...

1492 Heart - How Deep It Goes

Image
1492 Heart - How Deep It Goes From: Dreamboat Annie , Year: 1976 Genre: Rock/Folk I heard this song at some point this last week; I knew I should make it a pick soon, so today I am. This very beautiful song can sometimes get lost amongst all of the other hits on this incredible album, but it's one of my favourites off of it. Here is the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again My song pick two years ago today: Amon Amarth feat. Lars Göran Petrov - Guardians of Asgard My song pick three years ago today: Bob Welch - Ebony Eyes My song pick four years ago today: Jethro Tull - 17 +

1385 Heart - Who Will You Run To

Image
1385 Heart - Who Will You Run To From: Bad Animals , Year: 1987 As of late I've been revisiting some of Heart's music from the '80s. I can still remember when Bad Animals was released, it seemed that this song and " Alone " in particular got a lot of radio play. Anyway, I'd have to say that Anne Wilson's vocals are the main draw for me on this track, for some reason I've always thought she sounded a bit like Grace Slick in this song. Here is the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Benny Carter - All That Jazz My song pick two years ago today: David Bowie - Rebel Rebel My song pick three years ago today: U2 - Sunday, Bloody Sunday +

1098 Heart - If Looks Could Kill

Image
1098 Heart - If Looks Could Kill I'm picking another one this morning that I have been meaning to for a while. This is a straight-up rocker one would expect from the band, it is definitely an attitude song concerning a lover catching the other in "the act." Here is the studio version on YouTube. Here is a live performance circa '90 on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man My song pick two years ago today: The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun +

915 ( Heart - Love Alive )

915 ( Heart - Love Alive ) I heard a few songs today which I was contemplating for my pick; in the end this one won out. My song pick a year ago today: Gregg Allman - I'm No Angel My song pick two years ago today: Yes - Long Distance Runaround/The Fish (schindleria praematurus) +
