William's Song a Day Blog - est. September 2007

From: Zapp II ; Year: 1982; Genre: Funk/R&B This week, like last, just seemed to blow by... probably it's just me. Anyway, for this Friday I knew I wanted to pick something from Roger Troutman; wot a better pick than something from his band Zapp. This one is a non-charting single, but still one of the highlights off of their second album.     Hear Do You Really Want an Answer? on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Bruce Springsteen - My City of Ruins     My song pick 2 years ago today: Al Di Meola - Traces (Of A Tear)   My song pick 3 years ago today: The J. From: The New Zapp IV U ; Year: 1985; Genre: Funk/Electronica Was drawing somewhat of a blank today whilst thinking about which song to choose for this Funky Friday pick; I figured that I couldn't go wrong with something from the funk band Zapp. Computer Love definitely is a product of its time, but more in a friendly nostalgic way and not too dated.   Hear Computer Love on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Primus - The Ol' Diamondback Sturgeon (Fisherman Chronicles, Part 3)   My song pick 2 years ago today: The Tubes - Talk To Ya Later   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Kinks - Good Day My song pick 4 years ago today: Elton John - Bennie and the Jets My song pick 5 years ago today: Stuart Hamm - Radio Free Albemuth My song pick 6 years ago today: Central Line - Walking Into Sunshine My song pick 7 years ago today: Zakk Wylde - Way Beyond Empty My song pick 8 years ago today: XTC - Travels in Nihilon My song pick 9 years ago to...

From: Zapp ; Year: 1980; Genre: Funk Friday is upon us again, might as well make it a funky one . Anyway, I love how they employed the electronic effects throughout this track; they used them to the benefit of the song instead of leaning on it like a crutch like so many were during the time. From: Zapp II ; Year: 1982; Genre: Funk/R&B If my counting is correct, this should be my 143rd consecutive Funky Friday thus far. For some reason I wanted to pick something from the last letter in the alphabet, and of course when you're talking about funk, Zapp is always what "Z" is for. Anyway, if you like a blend of '70s and '80s funk sounds this is the song for you; that guitar, horns and keys reminiscent of the 1970s mixed with that early 80s synth and drums is nothing short of magical in this grooving tune. From: Zapp III ; Year: 1983; Genre: Funk Another Friday, another funky pick.
