5445. Depeche Mode - A Question of Time

Image
From: Black Celebration ; Year: 1986; Genre: Synthpop/Dark Wave The other day I learned that Depeche Mode founding member Andy Fletcher passed away at the young age of 60 years. It seems as if more and more of my favourite artists have been dying over the last few years; kinda sad, but I guess such is life....  Here's one from my favourite era of the band, which demonstrates their unique take of the synthpop/new wave electronic sound.   Hear A Question of Time on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Veins   My song pick 2 years ago today: Weather Report - The Moors   My song pick 3 years ago today: Stratovarius - S.O.S. 3837. Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses

Image
From: Goodbye Horses (single) ; Year: 1988; Genre: New Wave Was having trouble thinking of a song to choose today, so when listening to a bunch of other music one of them reminded me of this wonderful song from Q Lazzarus. Goodbye Horses took me back a bit; boy new wave was excellent back then and still is now. Anyway, I've always been one to enjoy lower-registered female vocals, and she is one that does it well and sings with so much power along to the smooth rhythm. Hear Goodbye Horses on YouTube. 1508 Depeche Mode - Stripped From: Black Celebration , Year: 1986 Genre: Dark Wave/Pop/Synthpop I'm over 1500 song picks into my song-a-day blog and I haven't picked a single Depeche Mode song. It actually was a bit of a surprise; I thought I had picked a couple of their songs, but I guess I hadn't. I grew up hearing them quite a bit and I've always been a fan of their music; this is one of my favourites. Here is the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Sammy Davis Jr. - Mr. Bojangles My song pick two years ago today: John Denver - Blues My Naughty My song pick three years ago today: Rush - Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres My song pick four years ago today: Rush - YYZ +

956 ( Wolfsheim - Über's Jahr )

956 ( Wolfsheim - Über's Jahr ) For some reason this rather beautiful piece fit my mood quite nicely. This one is a ballad with a definite classical feel to it. The acoustic guitar work and the vocals are balance and complement each other excellently. Here is a recording of the song on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Alice in Chains - Man In The Box   My song pick two years ago today: INXS - Disappear +

846 ( Wolfsheim - Once In A Lifetime )

Image
846 ( Wolfsheim - Once In A Lifetime ) I have been meaning to add a Wolfsheim track to my list for quite a while now and it seems like a good day for it. To those who do not know of them, Wolfsheim is a German Synthpop/New Wave band consisting of musician Markus Reinhardt and vocalist Peter Heppner, however at this time Heppner is no longer in the act. Because many of their songs are written in English with more of a traditional pop sound it is probably more accessible to an English speaking audience than many of their German counterparts. Here is the music video on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home) My song pick two years ago today: Pet Shop Boys - So Hard +
