6763. The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot

Image
From: I Robot ; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock Just had this record on my mind since yesterday evening; why not just go ahead and pick the first, title track? I Robot  acts as the overture to the overall concept album loosely based on Isaac Asimov 's stories concerning the mechanical men . Essentially is a six-minute instrumental piece heavy with synth programing and keyboards except for a chorale providing a human touch with vocalizations, which probably was the intention considering the overall conceptual story.    Hear I Robot on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Rainbow - Black Sheep of the Family   My song pick 2 years ago today: Funkadelic - Take Your Dead Ass Home! Image
From: Eve ; Year: 1979; Genre: Progressive Rock/Symphonic Rock/New Wave This is the opening track that is an instrumental and, I guess, you could call an "overture" to begin the record. 3988. The Alan Parsons Project - Silence and I

Image
From: Eye in the Sky ; Year: 1982; Genre: Progressive Rock/Symphonic Rock It's not true of me all the time, but as a rule if I'm sampling a record, (other than the hits or singles of course), I first go to the longest track and usually if I like it I'll like the other songs on the album. I feel that if an artist can go further than the standard less than 4 to 5 minutes and still keep it interesting then the rest of the music on the album is good as well; this is how it is with Eye in the Sky : after the title track I immediately went to this song and liked it, probably just as well as the main single. The multiple sections and use of both rock and orchestral instruments along with the amazing mournful vocals just makes just over 7 minutes of great music. Hear Silence and I on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Wall of Voodoo - Ring of Fire My song pick two years ago today: John Dowland - Time Stands Still My song pick three years ago today: Ta...

Image
From: Tales of Mystery and Imagination ; Year: 1976; Genre: Progressive Rock This morning I happened to hear some music from The Alan Parsons Project and it got me in the mood for some more. 1601 The Alan Parsons Project - The Raven

Image
1601 The Alan Parsons Project - The Raven From: Tales of Mystery and Imagination , Year: 1976 Genre: Progressive Rock A few days ago I happened to hear this song on the radio. Since I like it and hadn't heard it for a bit; plus I haven't picked an APP song yet, I'm making it my last blog post/song pick of 2011. As with the rest of the material on the album this song is based on the writings of Edgar Alan Poe, this one in particular is, of course, base on his poem on the song's namesake. It is mostly known for Leonard Whiting's vocals, which were run through a EMI Vocoder to give his voice that synthesized sound. Anyway, I'll catch you all next year! Here is a video with the studio version on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Béla Fleck and the Flecktones - The Sinister Minister My song pick two years ago today: Rammstein - Reise, Reise My song pick three years ago today: Billy Joel - New York State Of Mind My song pick four years ago today: Manfred Mann -...
