2931 Cream - Sunshine of Your Love

Image
From: Disraeli Gears ; Year: 1967; Genre: Hard Rock/Psychedelic Rock I've really been in the mood for something from Cream this morning; I was surprised when I discovered that this, one of their most famous and recognizable tracks, had not graced my blog yet. Anyway, this is probably one of the more noticeable song to have been written around a catchy and powerful riff; combine that with the lyrics containing symbolic and metaphoric prose and you get an instant classic track. 2646 Cream - I Feel Free

Image
From: Fresh Cream ; Year: 1966; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Blues Rock It was a rather busy weekend and just last night was able to check the news and I learned of bassist extraordinaire Jack Bruce's passing away; he was 71 years old. A full writeup can be read here on BBC . As most will attest Jack Bruce was one of the most influential electric bassists of all time; and it's not too far of a stretch to say that every person to play a bass since he came on the scene in one way or another has been influenced by the man. Anyway, even though it's a couple of days late, I thought it would be apropos to pick a song with him playing, and it's a great one to boot. Hear I Feel Free on YouTube. Song 530 ( Cream - Swlabr )

Image
This was one of the songs that was almost picked on my Clapton theme week that I had a while back. I have been meaning to choose it ever since and now seems like a good time. I have always liked this one quite a lot in almost every aspect of it. For those who might not recognize the song by the title " Swlabr ," I believe, stands for " S he W as L ike A B earded R ainbow." Here is the studio version on YouTube. +

Song 316 (Cream--"Tales of Brave Ulysses")

Image
I am continuing my Clapton kick for now with this song, which is one of my favourites from Cream. Every time I hear this song I always get a chill; it is an excellent composition. The lyrics are about some of the parts of Homer's Odyssey . From what I heard in a Clapton interview, the song's structure was inspired by The Loving Spoonful's hit Summer in the City . What more can be said about the ability and performance of this trio of legendary musicians? They are just incredible; Eric Clapton always is surrounded by the best. Here is the studio version on YouTube. Here is a classic live performance circa '68 on YouTube. +
