5018. Styx - Earl of Roseland

-
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71L12KfYZiL._SS500_.jpg
From: Styx II; Year: 1973: Genre: Hard Rock
From what I understand, this song is autobiographical of JY Young's early years of growing up in the Roseland neighbourhood and playing music in a band with the Panozzo Brothers, who would of course later become Styx. This is a really good song that is atypical of the early Styx sound.

6968. England Dan & John Ford Coley - Nights Are Forever Without You

-
Image
From: Nights Are Forever ; Year: 1976; Genre: Soft Rock I cannot begin to count the times I heard this album, especially growing up; my Mom and Dad played it a lot. It has always been one I liked quite much; the music and lyrics are always really interesting to listen to, especially with headphones on.   Hear Nights Are Forever Without You on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Merle Haggard - My Own Kind of Hat     My song pick 2 years ago today: Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers - I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent     My song pick 3 years ago today: Solar Plexus - The Serpent Speaks   My song pick 4 years ago today: Alphaville - Romeos   My song pick 5 years ago today: Savatage - Legions   My song pick 6 years ago today: Gerry And The Pacemakers - Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying   My song pick 7 years ago today: Steely Dan - I Got the News   My song pick 8 years ago today: Tarja Turunen - Undertaker ...

6966. Slade - Far Far Away

-
Image
From: Slade in Flame ; Year: 1974; Genre: Rock Still choosing songs that just start playing in my mind whilst going about my day; although, unlike other recent picks, this is one that I have heard quite a bit and not that long ago. I was unaware that this, their fifth studio album, was actually a soundtrack to a film which starred the members of the band concerning the rise and fall of a fictional band Flame. Have obviously never seen it, but now is on my "movies to watch list" I suppose. Anyway, I cannot remember where I first heard this one, but immediately liked it; that loping shuffle with the overall bluesy melody is just a great combination.    Hear Far Far Away on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Neil Sedaka - Laughter in the Rain     My song pick 2 years ago today: The Jimmy Castor Bunch - Sweetooth     My song pick 3 years ago today: The Moody Blues - Watching and Waiting   My song pick 4 years ago today: ...

6969. Genesis - it

Image
From: The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway ; Year: 1974; Genre: Progressive Rock Been enjoying The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway for the last few days and thought I'd go ahead and pick one more from the record. Whilst it might have one of the shortest titles, it's certainly up with its brethren on this double album, plus it is more or less the last time you'd be able to hear Peter Gabriel with Genesis before going on to a successful solo career.    Hear it on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Tom Rapp - Shoebox Symphony     My song pick 2 years ago today: Jackson Browne - You Love the Thunder     My song pick 3 years ago today: Lighthouse - Sunny Days   My song pick 4 years ago today: Ulysses Crockett - Sunshine Superman   My song pick 5 years ago today: Automat - Mecadence   My song pick 6 years ago today: Carmen - Table Two For One   My song pick 7 years ago today: Jethro Tull - This Is Not Love   My ...

Image
From: Harmonic Mind ; Year: 2026; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock Wanted to hear something from Ozric Tentacles today that I had not heard before; as luck would have it, their new album released about a month ago! I have to say, it is interesting to hear a shift towards jazz fusion; this track in particular reminds me of peak era Return to Forever. You can hear a noticed jump in musical maturity and composition strength; I really love this one.   Hear Malachite on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere     My song pick 2 years ago today: Mr. Big - Suffocation     My song pick 3 years ago today: Stanley Clarke - Modern Man   My song pick 4 years ago today: Cheap Trick - I Must Be Dreamin'   My song pick 5 years ago today: Rufus and Chaka Khan - Dance Wit Me   My song pick 6 years ago today: Van Halen - Love Walks In   My song pick 7 years ago...

-
Image
From: Kiwanuka ; Year: 2019; Genre: Psychedelic Soul Heard some of Michael Kiwanuka's music the other day and it really got me to go back and listen to more of his songs. I have to say, he is definitely a breath of fresh air artistically with how stale recent releases of popular music has become in the last couple of decades or longer; gotta find the diamonds in the rough!   Hear Final Days on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Wall of Voodoo - Mexican Radio     My song pick 2 years ago today: Neil Diamond - Shilo     My song pick 3 years ago today: Automat - Droid My song pick 4 years ago today: Paul Revere & The Raiders - Hungry   My song pick 5 years ago today: Cybotron - Encounter   My song pick 6 years ago today: Soundgarden - Bleed Together   My song pick 7 years ago today: Focus - Sylvia   My song pick 8 years ago today: Funkadelic - (Not Just) Knee Deep My song pick 9 years ago today: Blue Öyst...
