Song 479 ( John Denver - Season Suite - Winter )

This has been one hell of a snow storm the last couple of days. Last night everyone seemed to be out with either their little subcompacts or minivans, of course sans snowtires, doing the 'Little Engine That Could' routine making the commute even worse for us with four wheel drive vehicles. Of course that was not the end of it, we received a lot of snow last night! I shoveled about a foot of snow last night out of our driveway and walkway and this morning we woke up to about two feet more; it almost did not even look as if I touched it the night before. And now all of those people doing the 'Little Engine That Could' act actually didn't and are now stuck in various snowbanks throughout the city impeding the snow plow's path. As soon as the little guy goes down for a nap I have to finish re-shoveling the driveway.

It is safe to say that Winter is here to stay and the ground is going to be obscured until April or May again... Well it seemed like an excellent time to choose this part of the Season Suite; I chose the Fall section on Song Pick #422.
This song has a Country sound to it with a touch or Ragtime; overall an upbeat song. I think that an upbeat attitude is what is needed for to get through; easier said than done.

The lyrics seem eerily in the present-tense:

It's cold and it's getting colder
It's gray and white and winter all around
And oh i must be getting older
All this snow is trying to get me down
There's a fire in the corner slowly dyin'
Sometimes i just don't feel like goin' on
And yet i know it's more than worth the waiting
For another chance to see the summer sun
Come on, shine on me!

Here is most of the Season Suite on YouTube; the Winter section begins at about the 4:30 mark.
