From: Catch a Fire ; Year: 1973; Genre: Reggae Strangely enough, (except for their great album Exodus ), I really was not exposed to Bob Marley and company's music until my adulthood. Sure, I definitely knew about the band, Peter Tosh, and of course Bob himself, but my reggae influence early on was Desmond Dekker & The Aces and later bands that came on the U.S. scene in the 1980s like UB40 that really got me into the genre. So, for me it's been like opening a treasure trove going back hearing all of the music from the greats, especially greats like The Wailers and others like Alton Ellis. From: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere ; Year: 1980; Genre: Southern Rock The other day the final founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington , passed away, which is an end of an era. It looks like 'Skynyrd is going to continue on for at least the short-term led by band veterans Rickey Medlocke and Johnny Van Zant, but only time will tell. Anyway, Rossington Collins Band was essentially what most of the surviving members of " The Plane Crash " went on to, feeling that they needed to move on. From: Oh Good Grief! ; Year: 1968; Genre: Bossa Nova Jazz/West Coast "Cool" Jazz Been listening to a lot of Vince Guaraldi's work lately; in popular culture, for the most part, his music and his style are synonymous with Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts cartoons. From: Long Distant Voyager ; Year: 1981; Genre: Progressive Rock The record Long Distant Voyager has always had a very special place for me amongst The Moody Blues' albums. In a sense it was the "gateway" if you will, for me into their music and thus also the same "gateway" that got me initially into the progressive forms of rock and metal music that continues to this day. It's always a hoot to put it on the turntable and drop the needle and let the entire disc play; it has never fallen out of favour for me. Anyway, In My World is the closing track for the exciting and hit-laden Side A and is a perfect track to end it in my opinion. Both Justin Heyward's vocals and B.J.
