6324. Sam & Dave - Don't Pull Your Love Out On Me Baby

Image
From: Soul Study Volume 2 ; Year: 1982 (1971); Genre: Soul Last night I saw a news headline stating that half of the legendary soul duo Sam & Dave, Sam Moore , passed away. He follows his bandmate, Dave Prater, who tragically died in an auto accident back in 1988. To say these two titans of music left a footprint on music and pop culture is a huge understatement. Even to this day you will hear their hits being played everywhere, from radio, television, film, video games and more. Anyway, I have always loved the original by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, but really love Sam & Dave's rendition with it being drenched in the emotional fire that is their brand of soul.   Hear Don't Pull Your Love Out On Me Baby on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Stanley Clarke - Rock 'n Roll Jelly   My song pick 2 years ago today: Santo & Johnny - Sea Shells   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Nightwatchman - It Begins Tonight   My song p...

6322. Toronto - Get It on Credit

Image
From: Get It on Credit ; Year: 1982; Genre: Rock/Pop This one kind of encapsulates the whole "buy now, pay later" epidemic that has been rife here in the U.S. and much of the western world since, and especially since the 1980s. 6321. Jethro Tull - Drive on the Young Side of Life

Image
From: Nightcap ; Year: 1993 (1981); Genre: Hard Rock My playlist as of late has been favouring tracks from this album, which is kind of strange, but not too out there I guess since it probably realizes that 'Tull is one of my favourite bands. Anyway, gosh, I can still remember purchasing this one back in the 1990s of compact disc. I had to import it from Great Britain because it was not yet available on this side of the Atlantic, which I don't believe occurred until the early 2000s. Still have the "Made in England" sticker on the jewel case. Back then I listened to this album a lot, mostly disc 2 though which contained mostly their unreleased 1980s songs, many of which came out of the Broadsword and the Beast sessions back in 81-82 and this track was amongst them.  Drive on the Young Side of Life in my opinion was and is as good as anything they released during that time with the heavy music and lyrics. I really believe that leaving this one in particular on the cut...

6320. Wishbone Ash - You See Red

Image
From: No Smoke Without Fire ; Year: 1978; Genre: Hard Rock Had Wishbone Ash on my mind for some time now and am finally getting around to picking one of their songs. 6319. Herbie Flowers - Don't Take My Bass Away

Image
From: A Little Potty ; Year: 1980; Genre: New Wave/Rockabilly/Pop Yesterday I learned that a few months ago master bassist/tubaist/and overall musician Herbie Flowers passed away. He is another one of those musicians that you have heard more times than you could count playing on basically many British artists' albums as a studio musician. He is probably most famous for the twin bass lines on both Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side and David Essex's Rock On , which are landmarks on the bass. Some of the artists whose recording he appeared on where: Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Cat Stevens, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Al Kooper, Allan Clarke, Roger Daltrey David Essex, Elton John, Harry Nilsson, Sally Oldfield, Olivia Newton-John, and Cliff Richard amongst others. That is only a partial list and does not include his work with the avant-garde classical/rock group Sky and his solo material. Suffice it to say, you have heard him many, many times. I thought about choos...
