From: Living in the Past ; Year: 1972 (1969); Genre: Blues Rock Yesterday I was on the road for most of the day or at least away from home and I had this track on my mind; thought I'd go ahead and pick it. This was originally a single release from the end of their time as a hard rock blues band and was added onto the compilation album Living in the Past with many of their other singles at the time that were without an album. From: Cookin' on the Roof ; Year: 1983; Genre: New Wave/Rockabilly Whilst working on the yard yesterday I had this song pop into my mind and continue to stay there. I have not heard it for over 30 years or thereabouts, so I don't know where it came from; but I'll take it as a sign I should pick it. I had to do a search to find the band that did it, but they sound, at least in this song, like a new wave Stray Cats to my ears. From: The Allman Brothers Band ; Year: 1969; Genre: Blues Rock/Southern Rock Gregg Allman, founding member, singer, songwriter, and keyboardist of the band of his and his already departed brother Duane's namesake passed away yesterday. It seems that I've been making too many picks like this lately, especially of bands and artists that I adore. He was taken at the young age of 69; definitely his music will live on for centuries to come. Anyway, this early song I thought exemplified his vocal style with that was so soulful voice.
