4109. U2 - October

Image
From: October ; Year: 1981; Genre: Rock Was thinking this morning that I should choose a song about this month, October. As with most songs written about this month this title-track from their 1981 record is a bit maudlin and wistful. I think it has to do a lot with the zeitgeists of the time: the uncertainty of the future and such. Still it's a very pretty song albeit very short in length. Hear October on YouTube. 4105. R.E.O. Speedwagon - In Your Letter

Image
From: Hi Infidelity ; Year: 1980; Genre: Rock And yet another song I was absolutely sure I had already chosen in the past, but was mistaken. In Your Letter is one that has a lot of memories tied to; my dad had an 8-Track tape with this song and other hits from the late 70's/early 80's. He'd play it and my siblings and I would "dance" to the tape when we were very young; yep a lot of fond memories. Anyway, it's rather odd being that it's a upbeat song about a lover getting a "Dear John" letter and being jilted by his love. From wot I've read, it's actually based on a happening with a member of the band at the time. Hear In Your Letter on YouTube. From: Ritchie Blackmoor's Rainbow ; Year: 1975; Genre: Hard Rock/Metal I've said it before with other songs, but I could swear I had already picked it; I guess I had not. I absolutely adore Ronnie James Dio's powerful, wailing vocals throughout. It would be a masterpiece if that was the only draw, but the music is just as potent.
