Image
From: Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call ; Year: 1981; Genre: New Wave Bringing the month of June to an end with this neat song from Simple Minds. 5110. Duran Duran - Too Much Information

Image
From: Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) ; Year: 1993; Genre: New Wave/Alternative Rock Not really wanting that much to think about music today, but when music is always playing in my brain it kind of makes it impossible. Anyway, I had some songs from this album playing in my mind and I settled on this one, which was I believe a single off of it; it's got the band's early 1990s sound to it in spades.    Hear Too Much Information on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire   My song pick 2 years ago today: Sly and the Family Stone - Sex Machine My song pick 3 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Crossword My song pick 4 years ago today: Blood, Sweat & Tears - You've Made Me So Very Happy My song pick 5 years ago today: Mike + The Mechanics - Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground) My song pick 6 years ago today: Santo & Johnny - Summertime My song pick 7 years ago today: Zager and Evans - In the Year 2525 (E...

5109. Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - Freeways

Image
From: Freeways ; Year: 1977; Genre: Hard Rock Had BTO on my mind today and wanted to pick another one from them. Freeways has always been one that is in some limbo with me; I don't hate it, but I don't really like it either. I guess it just never had that one or couple of special songs, or maybe it's that it's no longer "album oriented rock" like it predecessors. Whatever the case, this is one of the song that I do kind of like off it for no other reason than to hear C.F. Turner's vocals.   Hear Freeways on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Four Tops - I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)   My song pick 2 years ago today: Yes - Lightning Strikes My song pick 3 years ago today: Queensrÿche - For What It's Worth My song pick 4 years ago today: Marillion - The New Kings My song pick 5 years ago today: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - K.619 - Die ihr des Unermeßlichen Weltalls My song pick 6 years ago today: Billy Joel - She...

Image
From: Tha Funk Capital of the World ; Year: 2011; Genre: Funk/R&B Felt like something from Bootsy Collins on this Funky Friday. 5106. Tears for Fears - Elemental

Image
From: Elemental ; Year: 1993; Genre: Alternative Rock Elemental , (the album of this song's namesake), has become one of my favourites from Tears for Fears. 5105. Steeleye Span - Cam Ye O'er Frae France

Image
From: Parcel of Rogues ; Year: 1973; Genre: Folk Rock/Progressive Rock I randomly decided on some Steeleye Span for today's pick. This more raucous version of the traditional Scots folk tune has a very moody and tense feel to it, mostly due to the subject matter of the Jacobite Rebellion and such. Maddy Prior did an incredible delivery of the vocals showing off her ability to shift pitches flawlessly.   Hear Cam Ye O'er Frae France on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Hawkwind - The Road To...   My song pick 2 years ago today: Lacy J. 5102. Rush - BU2B2

Image
From: Clockwork Angels ; Year: 2012; Genre: Progressive Rock Closing out another album today with my final pick from Rush's "swansong" record Clockwork Angels . This album has become somewhat special to me for the reason that it's the last new material I'll hear from Rush as a band.  Anyway, this is a bit of a different version of the song BU2B , but much shorter and done orchestral with Geddy Lee providing vocals.   Hear BU2B2 on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Jigsaw - Keeping My Head Above Water   My song pick 2 years ago today: ABBA - Andante, Andante My song pick 3 years ago today: The Who - Join Together My song pick 4 years ago today: The Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra My song pick 5 years ago today: Blood, Sweat & Tears - And When I Die My song pick 6 years ago today: Styx - Mademoiselle My song pick 7 years ago today: David Shire - Night on Disco Mountain My song pick 8 years ago today: King Crimson - 21st Century Sc...

5098. Jethro Tull - Out of the Noise

Image
From: Roots to Branches ; Year: 1995; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock Kind of an interesting song in that they were able to make a song about a mongrel stray running around a big city and make it fun to listen to. I really like their use of jazzy musical ideas and chords throughout the song combined with the hard rock stylings.   Hear Out of the Noise on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Ultravox - Man of Two Worlds   My song pick 2 years ago today: Steppenwolf - Rock Me My song pick 3 years ago today: ABBA - One of Us My song pick 4 years ago today: Rick James - Below the Funk (Pass the J) My song pick 5 years ago today: Black Sabbath - Symptom of the Universe My song pick 6 years ago today: Pallas - Just a Memory My song pick 7 years ago today: Steeleye Span - Orfeo/Nathan's Reel My song pick 8 years ago today: Alestorm - Flower of Scotland My song pick 9 years ago today: Cybotron - Colossus My song pick 10 years ago today: AC/...

Image
From: Quark, Strangeness and Charm ; Year: 1977; Genre: Space Rock/Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock Been in a spacey mood today, so it's time for some more Hawkwind. 5096. Heart - Lost Angel

Image
From: Jupiter's Darling ; Year: 2004; Genre: Hard Rock This song caught my ear the other day and I knew I needed to pick it. What I like the most is the choice of chords that have great mix of tension and harmony throughout; the vocals by Anne Wilson are incredible as ever. This is definitely a "sleeper" song in that it is a hidden gem on the record and in my opinion was worthy of being a lead single.   Hear Lost Angel on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Steeleye Span - Harvest   My song pick 2 years ago today: Fat Larry's Band - Act Like You Know My song pick 3 years ago today: Laura Branigan - Deep in the Dark My song pick 4 years ago today: Bay City Rollers - I Only Want to Be With You My song pick 5 years ago today: Jethro Tull - One Brown Mouse My song pick 6 years ago today: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO) - It's Over My song pick 7 years ago today: Petula Clark - Kiss Me Goodbye My song pick 8 years ago today: The Walter Murphy ...

5091. XTC - King For A Day

Image
From: Oranges & Lemons ; Year: 1989; Genre: Rock Been having XTC on my mind somewhat over the last few weeks and I thought I'd get around to picking another song from the band. This one definitely has that laid-back sound from the late 80s in spades, but is still its own song in many ways.    Hear King For A Day on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Wolfmother - White Unicorn   My song pick 2 years ago today: Billy Joel - Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) My song pick 3 years ago today: Wild Turkey - A Universal Man My song pick 4 years ago today: War - The World is a Ghetto My song pick 5 years ago today: Megadeth - The Scorpion My song pick 6 years ago today: Midnight Oil - Power and the Passion My song pick 7 years ago today: David Bowie - Magic Dance My song pick 8 years ago today: ZZ Top - Sleeping Bag My song pick 9 years ago today: Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized My song pick 10 years ago today: Les Paul and Mary Ford - Whisperi...

Image
From: Clutching At Straws ; Year: 1987; Genre: Progressive Rock Clutching At Straws is probably my favourite record from the band or a close second depending on my mood; I love revisiting this album a lot. 5089. ZZ Top - Legs

Image
From: Eliminator ; Year: 1983; Genre: Hard Rock I happened to see ZZ Top on the television last night and it got me listening to more of their music. This is one of their many hits off of the Eliminator album, which is one of my favourites from the band. From what I understand, interestingly enough, Legs was actually written about one of the guy's daughter taking her first steps and if you closely listen to the lyrics it does make sense.   Hear Legs on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Primus - Eclectic Electric   My song pick 2 years ago today: Parliament - Trombipulation My song pick 3 years ago today: The Alan Parsons Project - Silence and I My song pick 4 years ago today: Wall of Voodoo - Ring of Fire My song pick 5 years ago today: John Dowland - Time Stands Still My song pick 6 years ago today: Tarot - Magic and Technology My song pick 7 years ago today: Hawkwind - PXR5 My song pick 8 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Summerday San...

From: My Favourite Headache ; Year: 2000; Genre: Alternative Rock When I listen to albums I'm often drawn to the longer tracks or so it would seem, this one's no different. Image
From: Time Exposure ; Year: 1981; Genre: Rock It's weird how sometimes music from certain bands start just playing in your mind from out of nowhere.
