Image
From: Tubular Bells ; Year: 1973; Genre: Progressive Rock After listening to this landmark album last night I knew I needed to pick something from it. Of course being that this is an a-typical concept piece, there are only two 25 minute tracks on the disc, so I guess I'll just be picking the first one. Hear Tubular Bells, Part One on YouTube. 2627 The Four Tops - Standing in the Shadows of Love

Image
From: Reach Out ; Year: 1967 (1966); Genre: Soul/Motown This morning I had a lot of Levi Stubbs' vocals running through my mind and as always I took it as a sign that I should pick one of The Four Top's songs. To say the least I was shocked when I realized that I had not chosen this one yet; I thought for sure that I had, but I guess not. Even though the music was performed by the same band over all of Motown I've often found The Four Top's music some of the "heaviest" from the label; I believe that most of that is due to the vocals of Levi Stubbs and company. Hear Standing in the Shadows of Love on YouTube. 2625 Coven - Lost Without a Trace

Image
From: Blood on the Snow ; Year: 1974; Genre: Hard Rock/Progressive Rock The other day I was thinking about this often overlooked proto metal band that get's labeled for their movie tie-in hit One Tin Soldier ; while a good song in an of itself, it's not fair to judge the band by their biggest hit. Anyway, this is quite a neat and dynamic song with Jinx Dawson's light and beautiful vocals being framed by a more melodic verse sections that contrast with a heavier chorus with the male vocals. And of course the guitar solo is a great piece to behold too; all around a great track from a great, unappreciated band. Hear Lost Without a Trace on YouTube. My song pick a year ago today: Fairport Convention - Autopsy My song pick two years ago today: The Police - Every Breath You Take My song pick three years ago today: Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone My song pick four years ago today: The Moontrekkers - Night of the Vampire My song pick five years ago today: Maddy Pri...
