6178. Bonnie Tyler - Here She Comes

Image
From: Metropolis (Music from the Motion Picture) ; Year: 1984; Genre: Rock Had a case of having another song from a different artist on my mind than the one I intended for today's pick, so here it is, (or rather Here She Comes ....) [bad joke] This is one of the songs that accompanied the 1984 remaster by Giorgio Moroder of the Fritz Lang 1927 masterpiece epic Metropolis . Here She Comes was from the pen of Moroder and sung by Bonnie Tyler and served as part of the music track for the silent film.   Hear Here She Comes on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Kajagoogoo - Hang on Now   My song pick 2 years ago today: Link Wray - I Got To Ramble (Dedicated to the Memory of Duane Allman)   My song pick 3 years ago today: The Thermals - Back to the Sea   My song pick 4 years ago today: Little Richard - Long Tall Sally   My song pick 5 years ago today: Bruce Hornsby and the Range - Across the River My song pick 6 years ago today: Autog...

6177. Maxwell - Radiation Funk

Image
From: Movements Vol. 10 ; Year: 2020 (1979); Genre: Funk Going back to Tobias Kirmayer's Movements compilation series yet again for the end of the workweek. As with the majority of the material within, I do not know too much about this band/song, but at least I know it was released in '79! That's something at least, right? Apparently though, they were quite active at the end of the 1970s into the mid 1980s, broke up and then reformed in 2002 under the name The Maxwell Project and have been together since; at least as far as I can tell. Anyway, as always, I'm really thankful to Mr. Kirmayer for keeping these rare tracks alive and introducing these great artists to individuals like myself.   Hear Radiation Funk on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Jethro Tull - Guardian's Watch   My song pick 2 years ago today: Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) - Don't Walk Away   My song pick 3 years ago today: Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah - Lake Shore Drive   ...

6176. The Marmalade - It's All Leading up to Saturday Night

Image
From: Best Of The Marmalade ; Year: 1969 (1966); Genre: Pop/Rock Last little bit I have had bands on my mind whilst getting ready to make the day's pick; Marmalade, or as they were known at the time of this early single: The Marmalade, was the "band de jure." As said prior, this was an early single after the band changed their name from The Gaylords/Dean Ford and the Gaylords, which they had recorded under for about 5 years or so. Anyway, this was their initial single they released under the new moniker, but would not really break through for a few years more; despite it not being a big hit, it is a fun little pop track.   Hear It's All Leading up to Saturday Night on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: The Steve Miller Band - Sweet Maree   My song pick 2 years ago today: Stevie Wonder - My Cherie Amour   My song pick 3 years ago today: King Crimson - THRAK   My song pick 4 years ago today: Stone Roses - Fools Gold   My song pick 5 y...

6175. Sniff 'n' The Tears - New Lines on Love

Image
From: Fickle Heart ; Year: 1978; Genre: Rock Even though they are considered a "one hit wonder," I've felt that I have neglected them on this blog. Only have chosen that one monster hit, Driver's Seat , about 15 years ago, however, the one, New Lines on Love was also a hit, but only slightly. Anyway, there's just just something magical for me personally about music of this ilk from this era; love that mellow groove.   Hear New Lines on Love on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Sky - Tuba Smarties   My song pick 2 years ago today: Focus - Focus 11   My song pick 3 years ago today: Fleet Foxes - Can I Believe You   My song pick 4 years ago today: Pearl Jam - Retrograde   My song pick 5 years ago today: King Crimson - Epitaph My song pick 6 years ago today: Heart - Bad Animals My song pick 7 years ago today: Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence My song pick 8 years ago today: Lawrence Gowan - (You're a) Strange Animal...

6174. Bob Marley and The Wailers - Freedom Time

Image
From: Freedom Time (single); Year: 1967; Genre: Reggae For whatever reason Bob Marley's music is one my personal best remedies for depression; of course some songs are better than others, but this is one of the better ones. I just love the low fidelity sound and rawness of this song/recording; of course the bare soulfulness just makes it pure magic.   Hear Freedom Time on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Nothing Ever Happens   My song pick 2 years ago today: Jethro Tull - Living in These Hard Times   My song pick 3 years ago today: Parliament - Livin' the Life   My song pick 4 years ago today: Alice in Chains - Rainier Fog   My song pick 5 years ago today: Savatage - Skraggy's Tomb My song pick 6 years ago today: Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Countdown My song pick 7 years ago today: a-ha - The Blood that Moves the Body My song pick 8 years ago today: Mr. Bungle - Carousel My song pick 9 years ago...

6173. Explorers Club - Raising the Mammoth 1

Image
From: Raising the Mammoth ; Year: 2002; Genre: Progressive Metal Here's one of two pieces of music from what is the last album from the Explorers Club. It consists of a 38 minute, three part track and a 21 minute second track; to say the least it is musically on the extreme end of the progressive genres with high-end musicianship, production, arranging, etc. The band this time consisted of two alumni from the band Kansas, Steve Walsh and Kerry Livgren, guitarist virtuoso Marty Friedman, John Myung and James LaBrie from Dream Theater, drummer Terry Bozzio from Frank Zappa's band, and Gary Wehramp from Shadow Gallery amongst others. Heck, they even had long time Rush producer Terry Brown mixing the record, so, yes, it is very much in the very extreme end of musical excellence, virtuosity, and deep, nerdy concepts. 😁   Hear Raising the Mammoth 1 and 2 on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Black Sabbath - Solitude   My song pick 2 years ago today: Kle...

6172. The Coasters - The Deodorant Song

Image
From: It Ain't Sanitary ; Year: 1972; Genre: R&B/Doo-Wop/Comedy The Coasters are just one of those positive "feel good" bands that fuse the power of comedy into their act in a way that always makes them a favourite. Apparently It Ain't Sanitary was more or less a compilation album of unreleased tracks from the early 1960s; about '62 or '63 to be more precise. The Deodorant Song is one that sits right in line with most of the music they are known for.   Hear The Deodorant Song on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Barrabás - Wild Safari   My song pick 2 years ago today: The First Class - Beach Baby   My song pick 3 years ago today: Weather Report - Five Short Stories   My song pick 4 years ago today: Blue Öyster Cult - Death Valley Nights   My song pick 5 years ago today: Ray Stevens - The Streak My song pick 6 years ago today: Faith No More - Sunny Side Up My song pick 7 years ago today: Parliament - Do That Stuff My song ...
