I do not know why, just wanted to go with something from Ugly Kid Joe today. Also decided on going with one off of this album, which I have not picked one off of yet.
Motel California was released just prior to the band breaking up and going their separate ways with other bands and such until reuniting back in 2010. You can really feel that they were getting burned out by this time and probably calling it quits was the best course of action. A great deal of the music on this one was essentially doing the same music and ideas the other popular metal bands were creating. I remember this song, and the rest of the album for that matter; my sister had it and listened to it a lot back then. 1636 The Animals - House of the Rising Sun From: The Animals . Year: 1964 Genre: Rock/Blues Rock/Folk Rock Well, between spending some quality time with my 5 year old son and getting some writing done I figured I would make my song pick today and bring my theme week to a close as well. This often-covered traditional song is most likely The Animals' most popular and one of my favourites from the band. Even though they had many other hits to their name, it's still the song you would first think of when you think of the band. I've loved their version since I first heard it long ago; From what I understand they actually got their inspiration from Bob Dylan's version, which was recorded a couple of years earlier. From: Coat of Many Colors ; Year: 1971; Genre: Country Along with many others yesterday I was shocked when I heard of Dolly Parton's passing. However, with how private she was about her personal life it was no shock that she kept her cancer battle out of the headlines, and rightly so. Anyway, I refer to Dolly's music personally and "Mom Music" because she was among her biggest fans over the years and this is one of my Mom's favourite songs that she wrote. This one is autobiographical and tells the story of how she grew up in extreme poverty and her mother had to sew together some fabric remnants to make her a winter coat. As she made the rags into a coat her mother recited the story of Joseph from The Bible, which made it all the more special. However, the other children ridiculed her for wearing such a coat and tried to tell them about how special it was, but it seemed they would not listen. It got me thinking about the many other actors that have an insane musical talent; one that I'm always amazed by was the late-great actor and comedian Dudley Moore. Dudley Moore actually had quite a prolific recording career both with Peter Cook and the Dudley Moore Trio. Ever since I first heard some of his material I was amazed; probably the performance that sticks out the most was a live video of him making a parody/sonata in the style of Beethoven based on the whistling melody from The Bridge on the River Kwai , which can be found here on YouTube. This rather bluesy track hails from Rush's debut album released in the year 1974. As I've said before, they are one of my favourite bands; there's a lot I love about their music and it seems that I'm not alone. Over the years they have taken quite a bit of hammering from a quite a few people, mostly critics and those who take those critics' words as gold. However, despite this they've kept going and continued to sell with over 20 consecutive gold albums, 14 of which have gone platinum or multi-platinum and are now about to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
