Today is my wife's birthday and I decided to pick her favourite song on her special day. This was one of unreleased songs that appeared on the Crossroads album, it is a romantic ballad that I grew to like after many times of listening to it. This is one of those situations that the song became entwined with my wife in my mind, so I came to like it.

How earlier could you get than choosing something from the band that would become The Guess Who? Or more specifically wot the record company advertised them as a means to gain attention by leading people to believe they were an English beat group in anonymity: Guess Who? Long story short, it did bring them fame and they just stuck with that moniker. From: Let There Be Music ; Year: 1975; Genre: Soft Rock Just had this track pop into my mind today, and since I have yet to choose one from Orleans, as I normally do, I took it as a sign to pick it. I've never really looked into the band Orleans much, but have heard their more popular hits a lot over the years. It is one of those cases of me knowing the music but not the artist. This hit single was actually released on two consecutive studio albums, because their record company did not "see and hits" on it, so the 1974 Orleans II was only released in Europe and some Asian markets. 1411 Nightwish - Last of the Wilds (Erämaan viimeinen) From: Dark Passion Play , Year: 2007 Genre: Symphonic Metal/Folk Metal Been meaning to pick another Nightwish track for a while now. This is quite a neat track, the Uilleann bagpipes really add a lot to the sound. The song actually has two versions: Last of the Wilds is an instrumental, which was released worldwide on their Dark Passion Play album. Erämaan viimeinen is essentially the same song with vocals sung in Finnish; this version apparently was only released in their native Finland. 1890 Savatage - Somewhere in Time

From: Streets: A Rock Opera ; Year: 1991; Genre: Progressive Metal Off and on over the last few days I've been listening to this Savatage album, which is one of my favourites. This is the second-to-last song and, much like the other material on the record, is a fusion between Savtage's brand of metal with opera/broadway. For the most part Somewhere in Time can be played alone without losing anything, especially if you don't pay as much attention to the lyrics. However, it does work better played with the rest of the rock opera; particularly with the final track: Believe .  Those two songs go very well together and for the most part are often played in tandem. Even though I normally listen to it along with other songs on Streets , this is still one of my favourites on the album.
