Song 186 (Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov-Flight of the Bumblebee")

-

Continuing my work week of picking a song from each of "The Five," or "The Mighty Handful," I am picking one from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
This is a piece that has been heard by almost everyone alive unless he/she was living under a proverbial boulder. This piece of music has been covered by many artists in all genres of music and has been used a lot in popular culture.

Here is a live performance of the song on YouTube.
Here is an orchestral version of the song on YouTube.

Song 170 (Jethro Tull--"Rocks On The Road")

-
Image
For those unaware, I've been picking a song from each of Jethro Tull's "eras" from beginning to present on Sundays. This is what is the 11th era of Jethro Tull for me, the previous eras picks can be found in this blog on songs: 100, 107, 114, 121, 128, 135, 142, 149, 156, and 163. I noticed that many bands and artists that started in the 60's and '70s had their "back to our roots" era around this time, (the early '90s); Jethro Tull was no different. The album title Catfish Rising was in reference to the Blues from the early years coming to resurface. Most of the band remained unchanged from the previous era, however a few changes happened in the lineup on keyboard: Foss Paterson, John Bundrick, and Andy Giddings (who would be their keyboardist for the next 15 years) shared duties on Catfish Rising . David Mattacks also filled in on tour on keyboards and some drums. For me this period is from 1990 to about 1994 and consists of only two album...

Theme Picks

-
This list contains links to my theme weeks and other odd themes that I sometimes do. I highly doubt that it is complete; as I remember/rediscover other themes that I have done in the past I will add them to this list. I guess I should've made this list a long time ago, it would've saved a lot of hassle. My Theme Weeks (in chronological order): Canadian artist theme week - A week of songs from Canadian artists. Truck driving song theme week - A week of picks that featured song about or related to truck driving. Music I like that others I know do not like theme week - Kind of self-explanatory. "The Five" workweek theme - One song from each member of a group of Russian composers known as "The Five:" Mily Balakirev, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Modest Mussorgsky, César Cui, and Alexander Borodin. Eric Clapton theme week - A week of songs that feature Eric Clapton. "Moon" song theme week - A week of songs with "Moon" in the ti...

Open Letter To The Complete Lowlife Idiot(s) Who Filed a Copyright Infringement

-
Today I received notice that a blog post, number 100 to be exact , allegedly infringed upon someone's copyright. I have not been given any other information other than just that. What is odd here is that no one Else's actual "intellectual property" is even on my blog; I am unsure as to what it is referring to because everything in the post was either written by me, therefore my intellectual property, or is linked to another website. I am assuming that they are either mad about my links to the YouTube video with the song, (which belongs to someone Else's Google YouTube account), or perhaps the album artwork, which was hosted by another website. SINCE NO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY NOT BELONGING TO ME EXISTS IN THE POST IN QUESTION OR ON MY BLOGGER ACCOUNT , I fully intend to file a counter-claim. Whatever the case I have decided to temporarily removed the links to the song on YouTube from the post in question. To these idiots with no life: I hope some day you...

6957. Arthur Conley - Sweet Soul Music

Image
From: Sweet Soul Music ; Year: 1967; Genre: Soul/Funk I just love it when a great track just starts playing in my head like this one. Cannot count the times I've heard it and/or when it has started spontaneously in my mind, but for wotever reason I never have looked up the details. Whilst essentially a "shout-out"/ode to the soul/R&B/funk greats of the era, the amazing high-energy groove upbeat sound make it so much more.    Hear Sweet Soul Music on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The Charlie Daniels Band - Midnight Wind     My song pick 2 years ago today: Luther Davis Group - You     My song pick 3 years ago today: Steve Vai - The X-Equilibrium Dance   My song pick 4 years ago today: Willie Nelson & Ray Price - Crazy Arms   My song pick 5 years ago today: Marvin Gaye - What's Going On   My song pick 6 years ago today: Funkadelic - Some Fresh Delic   My song pick 7 years ago today: ...

From: Resident Alien ; Year: 1995; Genre: Glam Rock Another day of choosing a track that was on my mind; at least I am not picking one in memorandum of a recently deceased artist. (Knock on wood) Here's the song of the band's namesake from their debut studio album. I can only think of a couple of bands that wrote a song named after themselves....     Hear Spacehog on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Bruce Springsteen - The Promised Land     My song pick 2 years ago today: Klaatu - Anus of Uranus     My song pick 3 years ago today: Rockwell - Obscene Phone Caller   My song pick 4 years ago today: Zebrahead - Playmate of the Year   My song pick 5 years ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Mideast Vacation   My song pick 6 years ago today: Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy   My song pick 7 years ago today: Dream Theater - Falls Into the Light   My song pick 8 years ago today: Quarterflash - Nig...
