Yes, this song is what you think it's about. No, it's about death, you dirty lot.
Anyway, from what I have read this traditional folk song was originally written in the late 1500s. It is also known by the titles: The Dance of Death, and The Nightpiece; this is, of course, Steeleye Span's folk rock version. I believe the shaking of said sheets that they are talking about here actually refers to the way they would dispose of bodies into mass graves during those times.
