This song was originally written by master guitarist and songwriter Merle Travis, who is one of the pioneers of Thumb Style guitar picking. This style of guitar playing is characterized by the playing of a bass line on the guitar's lower strings with the thumb while playing the melody on the higher strings with the fingers. He might not have invented it, but he did definitely make it famous and was an inspiration to many other pickers, Chet Atkins being one of them.
Both Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins do an amazing job in their rendition of this one!
