After listening to some Rush last night I wanted to choose one of their songs today. I really couldn't believe that I have not chosen this track as of yet; this is probably my favourite song off of the Moving Pictures album.
In this one you get a neat little dystopian tale to go along with the excellent music of Rush. Essentially the song is about a person committing the weekly "crime" of going out on a drive. Actually the tale in the song was inspired by a short story titled A Nice Morning Drive written by one Richard Foster; it appeared in an issue of Road & Track in 1973. 738 ( The Allman Brothers Band - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed ) I am need of some Allman Brothers music this morning and I remembered this nice Jazz Fusion track from their Idlewild South album. What is so awesome about the earlier Allman Brothers music is the fact that they had not one, but two guitar legends in the group. This instrumental was an excellent vehicle for showcasing both Duane Allman's and Richard "Dickey" Betts' amazing skills on the guitar. 1258 Jethro Tull - By Kind Permission Of I've had this track on my mind, so I figured it would be a nice Friday pick. This is essentially a 10-minute John Evans' keyboard solo with a bit of Ian's flute; it was recorded live at Carnegie Hall in late 1970 and later appeared on their compilation album: Living in the Past . It was one of two songs on the album that were recorded live, the other being Dharma for On e ; both of these songs together took up an entire side of one of the two records. Apparently the song got its title, ( By Kind Permission Of ), from John Evans borrowing sections for the song from some famous classical pieces and for obvious reasons could not procure permission to use them from the original authors. From: Stardust (soundtrack) ; Year: 1974; Genre: Rock Apparently this song came was the title-track to the film of the same name, which Essex starred along side Keith Moon, David Edmunds, Adam Faith, and Larry Hagman amongst others. It apparently centered around a fictional group call the Stray Cats, (not to be confused with the real-life rockabilly band led by Brian Setzer), throughout the turbulent 1960 and the trials and such that went along with the characters. Funny enough, apparently Lowdown Popcorn is the only studio recording on this live double album; they just added reverb, echoes, and crowd noise to make it fit in with the rest of the material on it.
