6315. Carmen - The City

Image
From: Dancing on a Cold Wind ; Year: 1974; Genre: Flamenco Rock Kind of funny, but a bit ago I saw an advertisement for a European cigarette brand called Gitanes , which apparently means "Gypsy Woman" or something similar. It definitely took me by surprise and made me do a double-take. I immediately thought of this album, which shares the exact same silhouette image of the flamenco dancer; I guess Carmen borrowed it for the record sleeve artwork being that the tobacco firm was nearly 70 years older than the band. Personally had never seen the brand prior and was used to it being associated with Carmen and their second album; kind of neat actually. Anyway, here is one of the songs from the piece that comprises side two: Remembrances (Recuerdos De Espana) , and is the fourth track in. Truly a powerful piece with a lot of emotional energy and beauty.   Hear The City on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Jerry Goldsmith and Paul Williams - Flying Dreams ...

6314. Lionel Richie - Hello

Image
From: Can't Slow Down ; Year: 1983; Genre: Soft Rock/Soul Start of another year, so Happy New Years! Although, to some, especially those who do not go by the Gregorian Calendar, it is just another day. I guess it could be considered a human construct based on the both the seasonal cycles and, of course, observations of the movement of the Sun and other celestial objects which in turn marks one orbit around our parent star, Sol. Whatever the case, the majority of current humankind recognizes this as the starting date of the year. Anyway, enjoy the day with this soothing hit song from the one and only Lionel Richie!   Watch the music video on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bon Jovi - New Year's Day   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bing Crosby - Let's Start The New Year Right   My song pick 3 years ago today: Louis Armstrong - I Can't Afford To Miss This Dream   My song pick 4 years ago today: Parliament - Bop Gun (Endangered Species) ...
