Ugh, bringing another Saturday to a close; this one went by far too quickly.
Anyway, this track popped on my iPod at some point today and I thought it would make an excellent choice. While many other fans of the band seem to despise it, p/g is still one of my favourite Rush albums. This track embodies a lot of what I like about their music: awesome musicianship, deep and interesting lyrics, and the use of neat rhythmic devices.

This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style. Also David Crosby and Graham Nash add some backing vocals, also Harvey Brooks on bass and other Jefferson Airplane alumni Grace Slick and David Freiberg as well. Had a couple of other songs in mind for this minor holiday, (that is, if you can call it an actual holiday), but had this one just pop into my head while I was getting ready to pick.
