1467 Puhdys - Hier ObenFrom: Abenteuer, Year: 2009
Genre: Rock

I've been really enjoying this album a lot the last couple of days; Dieter Birr and Puhdys are only sounding better with age in my opinion.
Anyway, I liked this track the first time I heard it and have replayed it quite a bit. It's one my favourite songs off of the album.

Here is the studio version on YouTube.
Here is a live performance circa '09 on YouTube.

My song pick a year ago today: Rush - Circumstances

6962. The Grateful Dead - We Can Run

-
Image
From: Built to Last ; Year: 1989; Genre: Country Rock Dang, another month is now over; October is always positive, or at least I can hope. Had the 'Dead on my mind for most of yesterday, so I figured I should pick another one from the band, which is one I have always enjoyed. This one, which was written by late keyboardist Brent Mydland and long-time 'Dead collaborator/poet John Barlow, also features Mydland on lead vocals has a message and feel similar to the Earth movement back in the 1960/70s with more of a '90s production and sound indicative of them and their music of the era. Of course, this was also the Grateful Dead's "swansong" studio album; Brent Mydland passed away less than a year later.   Hear We Can Run on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: King Crimson - The Great Deceiver     My song pick 2 years ago today: Geddy Lee - Gone     My song pick 3 years ago today: Tommy Roe - Dizzy   My song pick 4 years ago tod...

6961. Explorers Club - Raising the Mammoth 2: AKA Prog-o-matic - Gigantipithicus

-
Image
From: Raising the Mammoth ; Year: 2002; Genre: Progressive Metal/Symphonic Metal  This will be the last Explorers Club song I will be picking; only because I have already chosen ever other song from the band/project. Oh well, still got material from Trent Gardner's main band, Magellan to choose from.  This is the epic 21 minute instrumental extravaganza that closes this concept record out; an excellent piece to do so, indeed.    Hear the full album on YouTube. (Part 2 starts just after the 38 minute mark)        My song pick 1 year ago today: Red Rider - Power (Strength in Numbers)     My song pick 2 years ago today: Billy Squier - The Stroke     My song pick 3 years ago today: Marcus Miller - Be My Love   My song pick 4 years ago today: The Jimi Hendrix Experience - 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn To Be)   My song pick 5 years ago today: Toad The Wet Sprocket - Something's Always Wrong   My song pick 6 years ...

6966. Slade - Far Far Away

-
Image
From: Slade in Flame ; Year: 1974; Genre: Rock Still choosing songs that just start playing in my mind whilst going about my day; although, unlike other recent picks, this is one that I have heard quite a bit and not that long ago. I was unaware that this, their fifth studio album, was actually a soundtrack to a film which starred the members of the band concerning the rise and fall of a fictional band Flame. Have obviously never seen it, but now is on my "movies to watch list" I suppose. Anyway, I cannot remember where I first heard this one, but immediately liked it; that loping shuffle with the overall bluesy melody is just a great combination.    Hear Far Far Away on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: Neil Sedaka - Laughter in the Rain     My song pick 2 years ago today: The Jimmy Castor Bunch - Sweetooth     My song pick 3 years ago today: The Moody Blues - Watching and Waiting   My song pick 4 years ago today: ...

2959 Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 225 - Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied

-

BWV 225 ; Year: 1727; Genre: Baroque Period/classical I made it another year with this pick today. Back in 2007 on this day I started this blog on a social site called MySpace and in '09 I moved it here; it's getting hard to believe that I've been at this for eight years now. Anywho, this is an extremely beautiful motet piece for eight voices, and there's a good chance you've hear the melody to this song; it's quite memorable. Hear BWV 225 performed by Orquesta de La Chapelle Royale; conducted byPhilippe Herreweghe on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: 2590 Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 1077 - Canone doppio sopr'il soggetto My song pick two years ago today: 2218 Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 996 - Suite in E-Minor My song pick three years ago today: Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV. 1051 - Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in B-Flat My song pick four years ago today: Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 1049 - Brandenburg Concerto No.4 in G major My song...

6965. Lou Gramm - Just Between You and Me

-
Image
From: Long Hard Look ; Year: 1989; Genre: Rock Here is yet another one that I have not heard in many moons and just started playing in my brain; who knows where it came from? But at least I got it out and made it today's pick. Back when it was released and some years after it was played a lot, so it was quite ubiquitous, but eventually faded from popular culture somewhat. Gramm's vocals are a s powerful as ever in this one; he was/is the main driving force for the band Foreigner and it shows.   Hear Just Between You and Me on YouTube.         My song pick 1 year ago today: The (Detroit) Spinners - Spaceballs     My song pick 2 years ago today: Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters     My song pick 3 years ago today: David Essex - Stardust   My song pick 4 years ago today: Beat Crusaders - Summerend   My song pick 5 years ago today: The Alan Parsons Project - To One in Paradise   My song pick 6 years ago today: Sky - Gymnopedie No. 1 ...

Open Letter To The Complete Lowlife Idiot(s) Who Filed a Copyright Infringement

-
Today I received notice that a blog post, number 100 to be exact , allegedly infringed upon someone's copyright. I have not been given any other information other than just that. What is odd here is that no one Else's actual "intellectual property" is even on my blog; I am unsure as to what it is referring to because everything in the post was either written by me, therefore my intellectual property, or is linked to another website. I am assuming that they are either mad about my links to the YouTube video with the song, (which belongs to someone Else's Google YouTube account), or perhaps the album artwork, which was hosted by another website. SINCE NO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY NOT BELONGING TO ME EXISTS IN THE POST IN QUESTION OR ON MY BLOGGER ACCOUNT , I fully intend to file a counter-claim. Whatever the case I have decided to temporarily removed the links to the song on YouTube from the post in question. To these idiots with no life: I hope some day you...

6314. Lionel Richie - Hello

-
Image
From: Can't Slow Down ; Year: 1983; Genre: Soft Rock/Soul Start of another year, so Happy New Years! Although, to some, especially those who do not go by the Gregorian Calendar, it is just another day. I guess it could be considered a human construct based on the both the seasonal cycles and, of course, observations of the movement of the Sun and other celestial objects which in turn marks one orbit around our parent star, Sol. Whatever the case, the majority of current humankind recognizes this as the starting date of the year. Anyway, enjoy the day with this soothing hit song from the one and only Lionel Richie!   Watch the music video on YouTube.       My song pick 1 year ago today: Bon Jovi - New Year's Day   My song pick 2 years ago today: Bing Crosby - Let's Start The New Year Right   My song pick 3 years ago today: Louis Armstrong - I Can't Afford To Miss This Dream   My song pick 4 years ago today: Parliament - Bop Gun (Endangered Species) ...
