I have no clue as to why this piece of music is running through my head this morning; perhaps it's due to it being Romantic Period music and thus is inherently sticky to the brain.
Anyway, this piece of music was written in the late 1800s and was based on a poem of the same name written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe a hundred years earlier. I believe that this piece was used in the Disney film Fantasia; just checked, yep it was used in the section with Mickey Mouse playing the part of a mischievous sorcerer's apprentice who borrows his master's magical hat.
