Looks like we're getting an extra day this February; quite frankly with how much snow we've gotten March can't come quick enough.
Anyway, last night we got gifted with almost another foot of snow, and it's still coming down. This morning when I was out shoveling the snow this rather hilarious Cheech & Chong skit started running through my mind. So, as I always do, I took it as a sign it should be my pick; yeah, I know it's not a song, but I'm picking it anyway.

Musically, this is a great "sit back and enjoy" kind of track very much in the norm of the hit making machine that was ABBA. It is definitely not in a sugary pop track kind of way, a very soulful and uplifting kind of way. Recently discovered that Marlena Shaw's recording of this track is actually a cover that was recorded a few times prior and since; I always assumed it originated with her, but I was in error. California Soul was originally written by the legendary husband-and-wife writing duo Ashford & Simpson and recorded first by The Messengers. From: There Is No Space For Us ; Year: 2025; Genre: Space Rock/Progressive Rock For the last decade or so I have loved that I can count on Hawkwind to seemingly release something new almost every year. This is one of the single releases off of their most recent album from last year and is a close-to-perfect song to bring the record to a close. It is essentially an instrumental with only the final seconds having any vocals. The arrangements are quite beautiful with some great contributions on both the guitar, piano, and synth in particular.
