Speaking of the popular Christmas hymn Joy to the World, this rendition is my favourite that I have had the privilege to hear thus far. Despite all of my attempts to find out who performed the music on this and all of the other songs for that matter, I still do not know, but they deserve credit; everyone of them.
Ever since I first saw the special premier back in 1987 I was mesmerized by both the energizing and extremely uplifting singing/music as well as the brilliant animated art that went along with it. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
