Had a hankering to hear something from Joachim Witt this morning. It has been quite some time since I picked one of his songs, so here's another one. From: Martika ; Year: 1988; Genre: Pop Since the other day I've had this track on my mind, which is another that I have not heard in decades. It's weird how certain songs will play almost like you are actually listening to them; this is one of them. Could still remember the chord progression, words and the instruments' sounds. Anyway, back in the late 1980s, (basically when I was a pre-teen/young teenager), I remember hearing this one a lot as well as a handful of other songs from Martika. If I remember correctly she was kind of already a household name prior to her recording debut with her acting career on a few films and television shows. Apparently Martika drew weary of life in the spotlight and the music industry in particular; she walked away after a few years and then reemerged about a decade later. I knew Pete Townshend wrote and sung on this track, always thought there was a recording of it on a Who album too, but I guess I was in error. I learned of Blue Mink through the works of bass great Herbie Flowers, who is among my favourite masters of the musical instrument. I wanted to pick this funky number, which was a single from just prior to the band calling it quits. Kind of neat how, even with them being a successful band, they continued with their side work of being session musicians during Blue Mink's run. From: Freak Out! ; Year: 1966; Genre: Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock Some very early progressive rock here, to some Freak Out! is considered to be the very first Prog Rock/Concept album. Who Are the Brain Police? is an interesting one; I love the loosely defined 3/4 waltz that lends more of an uneasy insane feeling than that of a dance. On that base Zappa and company build a strangely, but at the same time a well-constructed piece of music complete with zombiesque singing.
