The other day whilst I was driving home this song came on my iPod; I made sure to make a mental note that I wanted to pick it. I absolutely love their rendition of this rather great track.
Actually this song is a cover originally written by Roy Williamson of the folk group The Corries back in the late 1960's. Flower of Scotland is among a handful of songs which serve as an unofficial national anthem for Scotland; it is kind of interesting in my opinion to have such a new song serve such a role in such an old nation. From what I understand it is the most popular song amongst the candidates and is used at sporting events for Scots' teams.

From: Rain Dances ; Year: 1977; Genre: Progressive Rock/Symphonic Rock Once again, sitting down to make today's pick and had an album playing in my mind; guess which one. Initially when this track came on I was bemused by the wordplay of using the name of the ubiquitous device that keeps a musician in time whilst giving one the image of a savvy-dressed garden ornament with a stylish pointy hat and professionally groomed hair and beard. You know a "metro-sexual" garden gnome, even though the term "metro-sexual" did not exist in the late 70s to my knowledge. Perhaps it is referring to a garden gnome that lives in a bustling downtown. Anyway, enough silliness.... This one is quite an interesting one in how it starts with the tic-toc of the fore-mentioned metronome with a very "Beatlesque" first verse which quickly becomes big and epic when the entire band kicks in. 6229. Lionel Richie - Stuck on You

From: Can't Slow Down ; Year: 1983; Genre: Soft Rock/Pop/Country This one has been embedded in my brain for most of today thus far. To be honest, I have not heard it in quite a span, and was not 100% sure who performed it, but Lionel Richie was among the two or three I thought it was from. The only issue was that this one is just a wee bit outside his normal sound, as with much of of the material on this record, especially with the country/pop crossover influence on this song. When you really look below the surface of Can't Slow Down , you can tell a lot of it was experimental for the superstar. From: Deurdoneren ; Year: 1982; Genre: Rock The other night whilst driving home I had some of Normaal's songs come on and I really love how their music thumped and bumped through the speakers, so I turned it up louder; the bass and drums were mixed exquisitely. Anyway, as always, picking another song from them today; not too sure about the lyrical content due to their odd Dutch dialect. I really need to learn that language, been running into it a lot and online translation is absolute garbage.
