From: A Night at the Opera ; Year: 1999 (1939); Genre: Comedy In a weird mood today and had the Marx Brothers film At the Circus , or rather music from it playing in my mind incessantly. Wot the Marx Brothers did musically is seemingly timeless and is enjoyable to people born more than a century after release. I still laugh and cannot turn away from this scene in particular, it is just so entertaining and hilarious. Even though Groucho sings the lead and is the primary focus and does an amazing acting job, his brother Harpo doing his physical comedy in the background is my favourite aspect; he all but steals the show during this number. It took me a while to find the soundtrack, but luckily was able to find this album of one of their most popular film's namesake. Don't have very many left to pick from on this disc, or any of their others. Such a shame that they existed for such a transient time and with only three releases.... Don't know why I haven't chosen one of Eagle-Eye Cherry's songs yet, but I guess I will start with what is his biggest hit. As with many, many artists and bands, over here in The 'States he is erroneously labeled as a "one-hit wonder." He has actually scored a number of hits in other parts of the world, most notably European nations; chiefly his native Sweden. 815 ( ABBA - I Let the Music Speak ) This one has been running through my mind for over a month now, it seems like an excellent pick for today. This is one of their most intricate songs that I have heard both musically and lyrically. It is amazingly arranged: very brooding with a classical waltz feeling in the verses and then builds in the pre-chorus and, (with the signature ABBA hook), it launches into the chorus, then it brings you back down. The song's subject is about a musical artist going through the creative process of putting feelings to music, treating the music as a living entity in almost the context of a lover. This concept album is a continuation of the story begun on their '88 Operation: Mindcrime album. I can just imagine what the music critics were like when they first heard about this album: a concept album from a Progressive Metal band? They must've went completely apoplectic. As you can probably tell I'm not at all in favour of the move. I tried the software about six months ago and absolutely hated it; ever since I first saw the notification that this was taking place I dreaded it. I don't know what it is with these services who take a simple, easy to used, streamlined interface and "add" new features that only serve to make the blog posting process a messed up pain in the arse. Not only that, they saw fit to make the older processes that you were used to that much more difficult as well! Okay, I will end my rant now. 2225 Pat Benatar - Invincible

From: Seven the Hard Way ; Year: 1985; Genre: Rock This song has been literally running through my mind off and on for about two weeks now; as I usually do I am making it my pick. I grew up with Pat Benatar's music, and I can say even though some of her songs are over 30 years old, most have aged incredibly well; including this track. Her powerful voice that is potent in any range only adds to the empowering aspects of this song; that and the straight-forward thundering guitar, bass, and drums are what makes this song as good as it is. From what I understand this was the theme song to a film called The Legend of Billy Jean ; I've never seen or heard of it before, I might have to check it out for the soundtrack alone.
