Was intending on choosing one from a band hailing from the second wave of progressive rock, or Neo-Prog as some call it. However, I decided to pick one from this prolific side-project consisting mostly of members of the band Marillion as well as a few others from both sides of "The Pond."
Anyway, this was Edison's Children's debut album, and I decided that I should just go with the opening track from it. Dusk is a very atmospheric song that begins the tale told throughout In The Last Waking Moments... concerning an alien abduction. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
