1123 Béla Fleck & the Flecktones - A Celtic Medley: Meridian/Traveling Light/Salamander's Reel

Been almost a year since I picked a song from this talented group of musicians; way too long in my opinion. They are one of the bands that if I start to get bored musically I attempt to learn one of their songs, which usually keeps me busy for quite some time.
Anyway, in this track they show off their musical diversity again by bringing in some Celtic Folk Music to their mix of Jazz/Funk/Bluegrass/etc.; it makes for an excellent sound.

From: Mr. Big Stuff ; Year: 1971; Genre: Funk/Soul Probably should have waited until tomorrow to choose this one for Funky Friday, but I love the genre and this track too much.  This one popped into my mind whilst I actually had another song with a similar riff that caused both to start running concurrently, which happens a lot in my head actually. Anyway, this is one of those songs that doesn't have one "standout" aspect(s) that catches my attention, but rather a Gestalt, if you will. The entire makeup from beat to vocal is just so good it has your complete attention from start to finish, which is the hallmark of the Stax Records hit machine. Both are probably most noted for playing integral parts in James Brown's band and the creation of the funk genre, but both also have an extensive amount of collaborations with many, many artists. Freddy Taylor - Shine One of my main focuses musically on over the last two or so years has been trying to find some of the earlier recordings of music from when the concept of music was a purely as a live medium. I have come to enjoy the music from the interwar period in particular quite a bit. I actually found this version of the song while I was researching the songs which Freddy Taylor performed on during his musical career. He lent his vocal talent on some of the songs recorded by Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and the Quintette du Hot Club de France; this is one of those songs.
